Currently on a Q6600, and don't expect to upgrade until a hugely notable performance jump takes place and the Q6600 just doesn't cut it anymore.

CPU: Intel Xeon E5520 x2

M/B: Tyan S7025
RAM: Kingston ECC DDR3 24GB
PSU: Supermicro 1400W x2

I have just completely upgraded my box to Xeon E5520 so hopefully it can last longer...Not sure after few years the socket 1366 is still usable. But I will look forward to 8 cores or 16 cores CPUs in the future coz I think the current one should give me 3-5 years working time. (gaming is not the main point for this box tho)

--> My last computer was a Pentium 4 2.4GHz used for about 5 years already...

CPU: core i7 920 @4.0 ghz
GPU: 512 mb ati 4870 gddr5
M/B: Asus P6TD Deluxe
RAM: 3x2gb 1600mhz 8-8-8-24
PSU: 550W ultra lsp series

If I really had more money, I would wait until the core i9, I already went $75 over my budget, I like the i7 920 because of how it can overclock. Hopefully the core i9 processors will be compatible with my motherboard (socket LGA 1366; X58) so that I can upgrade in about 3 years to the core i9. I would like that, but if I have to buy new RAM and motherboard than I would just forget about it. Will the core i9 processors be compatible with my motherboard and RAM? Well technically it should be compatible with my RAM if it with my motherboard.
