I am using XP 32-bit. I originally installed vista 64 bit but my creative X-Fi had the crackling sound issue in vista so I went back to XP and now only 3GB RAM is recognized in my system, but I had kept vista for about 2 weeks it ran pretty smooth but there were too many issues with my damn sound card.

Okay nice, one other person has had or tried XP64 in this thread. I will repeat and say that almost everything works right now. But as mentioned, some (I would say very few right now) softwares will not work right or not install at all. Other than that, I have not found anything that will not run on XP64 that I need so far. Service Pack 2 probably cured this...and Vista64.

The last time I encountered a non-compatible software for my OS was installing a game that came with a graphics card at the time, hot off the shelf - 7900gt card, a racing game, V-Rally I think (Starforce protected game, bleeeh).

Hope the next Windows comes with a gaming edition in addition to their usual Home, Media, Professional, etc versions. Stripped of everything and optimized for gaming..

+1 for XP64 and vista X64 ( Windows Server Core Inside)

But it's better to have a 32bit in dual Boot in case of...

I also have tried XP64, but had NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS with my current rig and have no idea why. Before I used Vista32, but I have now switched to Vista64 and I'm totally happy with it.

I'm using Vista Ultimate 32-bit. My machine originally came with XP 32-bit but I brought my machine into the shop for a major refurbishment (replaced practically everything and the dealer offered the OEM because of the extensive hardware replacement so I took it). I missed the rough initial months so for the entire time I've had Vista its always worked well. Service Pack 1 and driver hardening have brought it to the level where all my games run just as fast as XP plus I really like Aero. Aero is one of the (well maybe the only one) reason I upgraded to Vista, on XP I always used WindowBlinds with an Aero theme but there were occasionally incompatibilities with it - with Vista its native and the minor WindowBlinds issues are nonexistent. Plus my entire library of 50+ games work just fine in Vista with one or two needing the compatibility options so thats a big plus, the transition from Windows 98 to XP was definitely much more rough than XP to Vista!
