I'd rather charge head first into a brick wall than buy a console. Unless that console was running Linux that is (No PS3's half arsed support doesn't count).

I thought the R600 was based off the xbox360's gpu but lacking some features (can't remember, somebody find the link).

It pisses me off too that there are so few titles coming to pc, i hate playing shooters on consoles, the controls are bloody horrible, you just cant beat a mouse and keyboard (and i dont care what any console dweebs say, i will kick your controller using ass with my mouse and keyboard)

the only thing i like on consoles are kinda fun stupid games, like the mario games and such, thats why me and my g/f stick to the nintendo's, theres a lot of fun non serious games plus good party games and fun couples games

at least i think so, if they want to keep selling those high dollar graphics cards to us we better have some good games to play...
also give me a mouse and keyboard any day, game pads just don't work for fps. i like my old ps1 and my dreamcast and mostly i use the dc for emulators. these newer consoles, the ps2, xbox, suck hard. i'm not even interested in seeing a ps3 or xbox 360 because i know it's going to be the same lame shit, for the herds...

The downside to being a PC-gamer: "Consolized" PC games that run well but generally suck compared to PC standards.

I've avoided consoles for several years. (though I did own one of the Original Playstations, a Sega Saturn, and an Nintendo 64...) Then last year a friend of mine helped me get an Xbox 360. The graphics are as good as the PC. There are no performance issues. Most of games have fewer bugs. And the "Live" service is superior to anything available on the PC. So Overall It's far easier to play games on the Xbox 360.

Now I still have a PC, and prefer to play many games on it. But I understand why many people might prefer a Console. And I also understand why, if a "majority" of the "game" market is using consoles, why companies would prefer to publish for those platforms.

Let me just bring up one example of the dynamic I'm getting at here. Nine days ago I bought Age of Conan, a game I've been waiting years to play. First the game wouldn't even install properly, and wants to download at least 15GB+ of patches. So I gave up on trying to get it to actaully complete the install after the 3rd attempt. Now I play some, but there are major issues, stealth nerfs, and all kinds of stupid crap... So essentially I can hardly "enjoy" the game. I can't easilly team up with people I know. And I'm really frustrated ...

Part of what helps me "get over it" is that I know there are several Xbox 360 titles on the way that I'm interested in playing. One of those is Fable 2. It offers what I really want, which is a satisfying RPG that I can play cooperatively with friends. And I won't have to worry about chat mechanics that don't work well. I won't have to worry about "not being able" to find my friends, and join them (or visa versa...) I won't have stupid issues with the game "installing". I won't have severe graphics glitches and a game that won't run well (even IF I spend $500 on the latest graphics card!).

Seriously!, I had more fun with Mass Effect than almost any game I've played since the Fallout 1 & 2 games 10+ years ago. I'm looking forward to Fable 2, Fallout 3, and the Force Unleased. And in the mean time, I have lots of other games that are fun because it's so easy to play with my friends.

honestly consoles bore me, to tears, they loose any apeal they have to me after you realize that your stuck with the crappy controller, that the game is completly un customizable, and totaly liniar because console games cant go outside the box, i cant stand playing shooters with thoes god awful controllers.

The ONLY games i marginally like on consoles are the silly fun games (like the mario series) and racing games, other then that i cant play em, we own a gamecube only because its the only system that has the mario games and some fun couples games, other then that i would never waste my money on an xbox or a playstation, i can do it all better with my pc

And PC games frustrate me to "tears", in a manner of speaking. I thought I couldn't adjust to a controller, but it was fine for Mass Effect, and Assassin's Creed, 8 other games. You cite the Console games as being "un-customizable" and I point to games like Oblivion, where there are all kinds of add ons. Granted these things do cost on the Xbox 360, and there are things "made by the community" that are free for the PC. But the quality seems to be better on the Xbox 360, since it's usually produced by the Developers, so that's a fair trade off. You say the games are totally "Linear", but the exact same thing applies to many PC games. That's one of the limits frequently imposed by trying to tell a story in a game. It forces a certain amount of "order" to suceed in that goal.

Now, when it comes to FPS (First Person Shooters... as opposed to "frames per second"), I definately prefer a PC. On the flip side, I still don't own Crysis, and I refuse to buy it. It's a prime example of one of the areas where PC games totally "miss the mark". Namely they can't be optimized for a particular set of hardware, so they become largely unplayable by anyone who doesn't have unlimited resources to upgrade their computer.

Face it! That last part, the cost of ownership, is what will eventually kill PC gaming. Developers and Publishers can't afford to make a game for a just a few people. And when you can get a console for the same money as a good graphics card, what are people supposed to do?

You may not realize it, but your decision to purchase a Wii involves factors that are clearly described by Economics. Specifically, the majority of us have limited funds, and this makes the price of "non-essential" goods much more important. Computers and gaming equipment, software, etc... clearly fall into this catagory of "non-essential" goods when compared to Food, Shelter, GAS... (you get the point I hope!).

This is one of the major factors why the Wii is such a success. It doesn't cost that much. So people don't feel like they're going to have to "come up short" somewhere else to be able to afford one.

I'd love to "upgrade" my computer. ... I'll take a new processor, new motherboard, new memory, new video cards (notice the plurality there...), and a new power supply and case. But I can't afford ANY of that, and I don't see how I could in the near future. I'm lucky my computer is as good as it is... I "help" other people all the time with crappy old Dells and HPs. And they just want their PoS to run, please! They can't afford "improvements" of any kind... don't even suggest it.

Bottom line is: you may hate consoles but they do have allot of factors in their favor. And that's a reality, even if you refuse to accept it.
