I have to be brutally honest (I have come to the realisation that there is no point fooling myself any longer and covering my eyes from the truth) I think the Athlon X2 is going to be AMDs last decent product before Intel makes AMD consumer products effectively defunct/redundant in the long term. Years from now when all AMD make are servers Athlon X2 will be remembered as the last ray of light for AMD and also the final nail in their consumer coffin....

...well , perhaps that was a little bit gloomy...

AMD should have stuck with processors and left ATI alone. That's how I feel about it. And, I'm afraid that AMD's troubles will bring ATI down with them.

But, I do hope I'm wrong. I'm not an AMD fan as I've been quite pleased with Intels for years. But, I've also been an avid fan of ATI cards for just about as long. I just don't like the idea that there won't be any real competition because then there's no reason to bring prices down.

Shared L2 cache is a boon for single threaded applications. When you're only using one core it gets extra cache from its neighbor. That is why Intel is pushing hard for a single L2 cache for all four cores (but not for nehalem anyhow).

When Nehalem is released all current intel rigs will be cut off from an easy upgrade. Deja vu?
