#1 | | Site Staff | Which Socket do you have? I’m using AMD’s Socket 939. I think AMD has made a huge mistake discontinuing it. If they offered me an option to upgrade to FX70 without replacing everything, then I’d go for it. However, since I’m required to replace a motherboard and everything, then I’d go for C2D. AMD made a horrible mistake with the 939 end of life, simply bad move by them. Instead of offering upgrade flexibility, they just drove us all to Intel with their AM2 and 939 EOL. |

#8 | | Stuck in "April 1st" | | M/B: Asus Rampage Formula | | | RAM: G.Skill 2x2GB PI Black | | I've been on AM2 for almost a year. AM2 is going to be around for a long time. When K10 is released they'll drop right in after a bios update. There's no reason to switch to socket 775.
Maybe there simply wasn't enough resources to support socket 939 and socket AM2 and develop K10 because of all the incompatibilities?

Hey Unix is it true that K10 will work on AM2?? Then this is bad news for my friend cuz he just bought a 6000+, if this is true then I TOLD HIM HE SHOULD HAVE WAITED
P.S. I agree with the fact that AMD should not have dropped support for 939, because a lot of people are using it and it is just another loss of money for them i think (which i like to think BTW )

| Yes and to top that off the DDR3 enabled AM3 CPUs will also work on AM2 because the memory controller has a cool switch that can change from DDR3 to DDR2 mode. I'm not sure he should have waited. After all the 6000+ is dirt cheap and performs so well in gaming he won't feel the need for a CPU upgrade until quite a whiles after K10 is released (plus we don't know the starting prices for K10 desktop dual and quad chips yet).
