Default RAM upgrade question

Hi, my parent have the follow PC:
  • Intel Pentium 4 531 HT processor (3GHz)
  • 512MB Ram (533MHz DDR2)
  • 160GB 7200RPM Ultra-ATA 133 hard disk drive
  • 18X LG SuperMulti dual-layer DVD+/-/Ram drive
  • Intel 945GZ mainboard
  • 800MHz FSB
  • Intel GMA950 graphics
  • 1 x PCI-Express(16X) slot
  • 2 x PCI slots
  • Gigabit LAN
  • 5.1Surround Sound audio
  • Mini-ATX case
  • 300W PSU
The obvious thing lacking is RAM, so i went out an bought a 1GB DDR2 667. As far as i am aware, this will get clocked down to 533 if i add it to the existing RAM, right?

My question is this, Would the PC see more of an increase with the 1GB running at 667 or 1.5GB running at 533?

EDIT: the motherboard doesnt support 667! so my question now is, was my assumption right in that the ram will be clocked down to 533?

you are correct, the mem will clock down to 533. the timing on the mem will improve alittle, and more mem is always better.

LOL The most obvious thing lacking is a good GPU, thats what I was thinking looking at the specs, but if they don't play 3D games it doesn't matter i guess.

Right on the RAM and good observation on the Viddy Bro

Also noted they have a dual layer DVD burner and any viddy stuff for movies or any rendering in PS or any other programs would also benefit a better GPU

the difference between ddr 1 and 2 is meer nano seconds anyway.

not sure how much benefit would be their even for rendering

I would seriously keep only the 1 gb of DDR2-667 because if ever you want to add even more it wont be clocked down to 533, besides there a great improvement between 512mb and 1024mb.

downclocked on 533 lol (my ddr works from 400 to 667 and it can get to 800 without any problems but latency is too high and that slows down pc)
it works with lower latency and it get beter speed (dont ask me why)

p.s.i dident put that i have overclocked my cpu and gpu lol i have puted default clocks in info
