Default temp in cores different?

i have had my athlon 64 X2 4400+ for over two months now and it was worth the $216 i bought it for OEM. i got an Artic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro for cooling. the one thing i was wondering about was the fact that the second core runs an average 3-4 Celsius warmer than the first core.

one possible casue would be in the installation. i was working the heatsink in, and i had to reseat it around 4-5 times, it was my first installation of a heatsink that had heatpipes. while i was on the third attempt, i saw that a good chunk of the thremal grease that came on the cooler came off and was stuck to the cpu. after i got it in i did not think about it though. could air have gotten in the pad, making the CPU hotter from the resistance that air has to heat tranfering? or is a dual core CPU always hotter on the second core?

yes, it's normal ... because the cores do not have always the same load

Yup. The cores hardly ever have the same load even in some mulithreaded games.

ok thanks for the input. it had me worry because i am starting to delve in the realm of overclocking, and that any small problem could become a major issue later.

Perfectly normal. I have noticed that XP likes to use the second core more than the first one.
