Default FX-55

I have read in many other forums that most of todays games do not take advantage of a dual core cpu. It will just sit there at idle. I bought a FX-55 for that reason. Can you explain to me why the Athlon x2 4600+ is better? I can see it might be better in the video/Audio Encoding but not in games. This is my first post, I just registered tonight, so go easy on me..

Many games are supporting dual cores now and in the future. You benefit more with a dual core then with the FX55. Oh, and yeah you can overclock the 4600+ easily and reach to FX60 clocks easily.

Ok, I did some reading and the X2 4600+ is clocked stock @2.4 gigs. I am sure it can be overclocked very easy, but so can the FX-55. With GCPUID I overclocked my FX- 55 to 3gig with just 2 clicks of the mouse button. Right now, after coming out of 3 hours of playing Dark Messiah, it is running at 24C. I did want to buy the FX-60 like you have in your sig but the FX-55 dropped down to $130. I could not pass that up. So another reason I went with the FX-55 was price. Of course my next rig, when I can afford one, will be dual core. If the price drops way down on the X2 FX-60, I will grab it in a heartbeat. I never checked, but will my MB support dual core? Thanks for the fast reply.....

ps...this is hard to believe but my friend in Australia told me the Athlon Fx-55 is still 1300 dollars there. I will be sending him one for Christmas.....

Well I own a Fx 55 and yes it will do 3.0 in a heart beat easy but prices just dropped on the Opteron 165 at Newegg for 155.00 shipped it OC to 2.7. And let me tell you it kicks the crap out of my FX> even in single threaded games. And in games like COD2 that take advantage of the dual core you wouldnt believe the difference. Multicore cpu are the future you want to see the difference in speed look here. Remember also the dual core is newer technology.
