That's a good point werty! Though, the extra $40.00 in this case, probably isn't worth it..

Just for comparative purposes: My X2 3800+ is $349.99, the Opteron 165 is $398.00, and the Opteron 170 is $475.00! Canadian currency of course !

Do you buy local or online jbruneau?

$383 - 3800+
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...anufacture=AMD

$393 - 165
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...anufacture=AMD

Right now members can get this for $370 which is cheaper than the 3800+ . Other than NCIX, Dangeo is great too.

3800+ has 2x 1MB cache @ 2.0GHz
Opteron 165 has 2x 2MB cache @ 1.8GHz

I have a wholesaler nearby, but they have gotten new owners recently that do not give the same discount as before. I usually go to CanadaComputers or NCIX now.

The prices quoted above were from CanadaComputers .

This is true, BUT, also note this very important tidbit:

3800+ has 2x128kb L1 Cache, 2x512MB L2 Cache @ 2.0ghz
Opteron 165 has 2x64kb L1 Cache, 2x1MB L2 Cache @ 1.8ghz
* The cache reported is PER CORE
