Default AM2 or 939? You decide

AMD will releasign a new Socket factor this yr named AM2

this socket will be 940 pins and support DDR2

the downside to this is current 940pin cpus will not be compatible as we all know the CPU now has the DDR controller on it, and DDR2 and 1 Sockets are different

AM2 based processors will be getting a fsb bump to 333mhz which will mean the base ddr for these new mobos will be 533 and 667.

you decide!

I think I'll try to stick with 939 as long as I can!

I know Intel has had rough roads on DDR2 so far.. It is difficult to incorporate, didn't give much of a speed boost (until lately), and the RAM doesn't have the same 'kick' as it does now.. I rather enjoy my 2-2-2-5 timings running T1 at 2.8V!! With the new FX60 and X2 CPUs still running on 939 I'll be good for plenty long enough, at least until they work all of the bugs out

Cant say anything until we see the new cpus, is not all about the socket , anyways I'll sure look for theAM2 for my next rig.

as long as it doesnt make a jump on prices as well, would be nice to see more and more AMD alternatives, for now 939 i will choose (if i ever get to get AMD64 )

I'll go for AM2 since things that matter these days are memory speeds/bandwidth (which is determined by the speed if your memory and DDR2 is capable of getting twice the speed of DDR1) and your gfx card.
so i think AM2 will really improve game performance.

Only time will tell, it's only like 4-5 monthes till they release the new socket (around june)

As I usualy do I wait till the prices go down and all the bugs are fixed.

But I will get a AM2 later one like maybe a year after its out.

DDR2 has hight latency compared to DDR
for Intel it didn't bring nothing so for AMD might be the same
