for gaming is the 3500+ is the best bang for the buck

a semptron or a celeron is only good for office and internet pc's i dont considder it as a die hard gaming cpu

for video editing and multi threading the intel is the best choice

I would definitely stick with the AMD Athlon64 S939 CPU, as Regeneration suggested!

A sempron / celeron is simply a stripped down version of the true processor (cache is removed, which causes a dramatic slow down). Don't save your money as the performance loss is too great! As screenager mentioned, they are good for simple internet machines (like in a library), but nothing more.

AMD is beginning to do very well for themselves in the video/audio editing scene, don't be fooled ! Their new X2 CPUs are totally controlling the scene, and their highend 64bit CPUs (3700 / 3800) are following very closely...

If you can get your hands on any AMD it will be cheaper and run much cooler (almost 1/2 the heat)! Plus with AMD, on any of the Socket939 boards, you can go up to the X2 (dual core) processor with runs faster than Intel's competitor chip and again 1/2 the heat..

If you have to go with Intel, than you must .. but I would hate to see you fall to the dark side

I know that Intel has a dual-core cpu to compete, but it isn't as fast, and produces over 2x the heat that AMDs dual-core cpu does! Ontop of that, it costs less to go with AMD. It's crazy to go with Intel right now!

Squall is right, the new FX60 cpu rocks, and is single-core as well! It's faster than some of AMDs dual-core cpus! LOL!
