Overclocked my P4 to 3.75GHz!!!!

I was thinking to myself the other day that my P4 prescott 3GHz CPU just wasnt fast enough for me anymore, and so I thought I'd turn my hands to trying to overclock it, to try and throttle a little more life out of it.

And I've now managed to get it to a pretty amazing 3.75GHz with the bus running at 1000MHz.

I've been running stability tests all day, and it is stable at these speeds and it's around 37 degrees C while idle with air cooling.

This was my first go at overclocking, so I'm really impressed. I'm sure it will go to 4GHz, but I'd have to liquid cool it, so I'll not push it any more just yet.

im sure it will be stable ,did u increase voltage?

I have dropped it down to 3.6GHx now, as some strange things were happening when i tried to encode and burn videos. I'm going to look into some liquid cooling soon though, as I believe heat was a major issue and cause of the problems, and I think with liquid cooling and some good memory it will reach 4GHz.

temps shouldn't be the problem because when the cpu gets to hot the system will shut down

i've passed 4gig with my P4 630 with air cooling
you must have hight speed memory to do that ...

Yep put the liquid to it get good memory, bump the voltage and it will more than likely get 4.0 If it doesnt make it should be close, be sure you have a good power supply as well.

I have a processor just like yours.
Prescotts tend to overheat a lot (it's build using the 0.09 m tech. => small waffer size => small surface for heat exchange with the heatsink), so a water cooling system is indeed a good ideea if you want to push it up to those frequencies.

Mine is air-cooled too, but it stays at about 50 degrees C when idle.

What cooler did you use?
I was thinking of buying something like: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro ( http://www.arctic-cooling.com/cpu2.php?idx=79&disc= ) but i'm not quite sure.
