#1 | | Newbie | Looking into buying a new PC? Are you not sure of what to get? No worries! I have done my research, and come to the conclusion that this is the best budget PC. This PC does NOT include a monitor, keyboard/mouse, an Operating System (Windows XP), or speakers. I will leave a little slack so you can spend the rest of your money on these nessecities. NEWEGG will be used for the building of this PC. Please note that Newegg ONLY ships to the US and Puerto Rico at this time.
The final cost of this PC will settle around $1000-the perfect price point for a PC today. The SLI features of the motherboard as well as the socket 939 chipset will prove invaluable when future upgrades are needed-buy another nVIDIA 6600GT and a nice new processor and you're good to go! OK, onwards! CPU: AMD 64 s939 3200+ $196 MOTHERBOARD: ASUS A8N SLI $175 RAM: CORSAIR VALUE RAM-DUAL CHANNEL KIT $138 VIDEO CARD: MSI 6600GT PCI-E $187 HARD DRIVE: WESTERN DIGITAL 7200RPM SATA DRIVE-80gb $65 *CASE: THERMALTAKE SOPRANO $79 **POWER SUPPLY: THERMALTAKE SILENT PUREPOWER 420w $38 CD DRIVE: AOPEN CDRW/DVD READER COMBO $33 FLOPPY: NEC FLOPPY DRIVE $8 FINAL COST $919 *Feel free to change this to anything of your liking, as long as its in the same price range and it has sufficient cooling. If you find one you like, post it here and I will tell you help you decide to get it or not. **I'm not too sure how this power supply will work on a PCI-EXPRESS motherboard...I think you can get adapters for the power but I'm still not absolutely sure.
This leaves around $80 for all your other essentials. If you need a new monitor as well, then sorry, your out of luck! If you're in a situation like that, post here and I will help tweak this setup to match your needs.
If you see anything wrong with my setup, please tell me VIA pm! I will fix it up right away.

#4 | | Guest | lol 38$ is cheap for a thermaltake power supply, why would you want to skimp on that anyways?? i agree, a 3000+ would be a better choice for around 139$-145$, on memory is that a gig?? you can get a gig of Kingmax DDR500 hardcore dual channel for 139$
if you want an AGP solution you can go with the Abit AV8 for ~105$ and the 6600GT AGP version for around the same 170-175$ and if you dont want to spend 79$ on a case you could go with the one i got, X-Blade, it was 54$ and is one of the sweetest cases ive had or seen, flows extremely well and comes with a decent 450watt PSU already.

If you see anything wrong with my setup, please tell me VIA pm! I will fix it up right away. | OK, here is one for all of you... Case w/ PSU: AMS gMONO black case | Side window | 350watt PSU - $65
I have personally built systems in these cases. The power supply is WAY under rated. Nor can word, or pics explain the beauty of this case. Motherboard: MSI "K7N2 Delta2-LSR" - $60
Used this mainboard in my business... fast, stable, cheap. Processor: AMD Mobile Athlon XP 2500+ - $88
AHHHHH... the mobility 2500+ This particular processor will do 2400MHz standing on its head! CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Volcano 10+ - $32
All copper, AMD recommended to 3400+ w00t! Memory: 256MB OCZ PC3200 EL Cas2 Price for two (got to have dual channel) - $80
Got 512MB of screaming 400MHz DDR, works well with the K7N2... and you can always upgrade later. Video: XFX nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT - $185
Plenty of beef on this burger! Sound: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value - $50
50 bucks, and its tons better than onboard. Storage: Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200GB - $106
200Gigs of the fastest 7,200rpm drive on the planet... fast, large, cheap... WORKS!
16MB cache .... *drools* Optical: LiteON 16X Double Layer DVD burner! - $57
Hmmm... that is about the best you can get ... for the least amount of money... Keyboard / Mouse: Microsoft Black Multimedia Keyboard & Wheel Mouse Optical Bundle - $35
Probably best bang for the buck... I game with this exact set at my shop. Monitor: 8-Cube 17" LCD Monitor - $203
I have used these monitors in my shop... They work nicely! With a 12ms refresh (the least expensive 12ms refresh LCD available) NO GHOSTING!!!! Headset: Plantronics .Audio 90 Stereo Headset - $20
Personally own these... have had them now for almost 3 years!!!!!
take care of them, and they will last a LONG time... Sound great too! Total:
$981.00 USD +S&H
$1,039.14 after S&H
Without the Audigy sound card, this machine would be WELL under the $1000.00 dollar mark... (I would rather save a bit more, and have a good sound card :P)
I do believe that is about as good as it gets for the price vs. performance market... Please comment!!!!!
:good:

#8 | | Guest | Here's another thought:
Sempron 3100+ or 3200+ (can do 2400MHz quite easy) + adequate cooling (something along the lines of Ttake Sonic Tower)
nForce3 250GB board (maybe a DFI, overclocks great, or so i heard)
1 gig A-Data DDR600 (does 5-2-2-2-1T @ 400)
a 6600GT (but not quite no-name )
The rest can be left up to pesronal prference, but that should perform quite well, and well within the 1000$ limit, right?

#10 | | Guest | Cheap, but VERY overclockable.. With a bit of luck, you might even be able to stretch for a 6800 (non-ultra, maybe even GT, but it's a longshot )
Plus 1 or 2 200gig HDD's, and you have a decent gaming rig.. in my opinion..
