M/B: Gigabyte X48 DS5
RAM: 2x2GB DDRII OCZ
PSU: Chiftec 550W

I don't know, if you wait there will always be new hardware. I mean, firstly the new DX11 (wtf, 11 already, what about 10?) will be out, then people will wait for the price drop, then newer cards with revamped chips will be out (especially nVidia), then a new price drop... it goes on and on.

195$ for a 4890 is a nice price and I think it's a nice deal. And I can bet my left nut it will hold you over for a few years, THEN you get the DX11 card, maybe by that time there will be some DX10... erm DX11 games XD

CPU: Core I7 920 @ 4 Ghz

M/B: P6T SE
RAM: 3x2GB DDR3 1600mhz
PSU: Thermaltake 750

Are you going to OC the $#!t out of your CPU? Its only a suggestion but try getting either 1866mhz or 2000mhz DDR3 Ram as once you increase the FSB to over 200 (if you want to OC to 4.4ghz) it OCs the ram too

I had my i7 OC to 4.4 Ghz (210x21) at 1.375v which (OC the ram from 1600 to 1680mhz) boot into windows however when i tried Vantage it locked up, when i restarted the system detected only 4gbs of ram instead of 6gbs. Once i dropped the FSB to 200 the 6gbs was detected again. This suggests to me that its a RAM issue. So if you want max OC make sure the RAM can handle it. Just a thought, one day i hope to upgrade to 2000mhz ram and try for 4.4ghz again but for now 4ghz is plenty.

Smile Wait Till January Onwards !!!

Personally I agree with the 1st post, wait for a while, certainly until january onwards, prices are quite high at the moment due to christmas coming up, hardware sales will slump rapidly early 2010 becuase 1000s of people worldwide will have purchased new PCs and Laptops with the all new Windows 7.

Once this happens hardware & PC sales will decrease and they may be a price war, and this is the time to upgrade.

As far as waiting for DirectX 11 is concerned well I disagree, simply becuase prices will rise with GPUs to support DirectX 11 but at the same time, I dont think they will be any DirectX11 games until at least late 2010, I mean there is only around 10 fully DirectX compatible games on the market now, let alone DirectX 11, so If I was you Id get a 2 high quality DirectX 10 cards.

Honestly I would wait, build a good DirectX 10 SLI Rig with quality motherboard, memory to match etc.

All the Best, and enjoy building your powerPC, but wait and save a fortune.

shinysuitman did you know the M/b you picked only has a two year warranty ? Pick a M/B from evga with a part numbers ending in -A1, -A2, -A3, -A4, -AR, -AX, -CR, -CX, -DX, -FR, -FX, -SG, -SX. if you want a lifetime warranty. I don't know why Evga does it this way.
