CPU: Intel E6700 @ 3.2 GHz
GPU: HD 4770 512 GDDR5
M/B: MSI P45 Neo F (Rev. 1)
RAM: 8 GB Dual Channel DDR2
PSU: 1000W Ultra X3
Default What would be a good CPU Upgrade?

Staying in the 775 architecture, from an E6700 what would be a substantial upgrade? I really don't see the need to go to DDR3 and I7 for now. I might next year, but not presently.

Open for suggestions.

Quad Core probably, but you won't see a lot of difference. Maybe go for some high-end CPU cooler and overclock more.

The processor I'm actually thinking about is this one:

http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0281097

combined with ths motherboard:

My MSI P35 has stopped working. So, I'm temporarily using an Intel D975XBX board to get by.

+1. quad core would be the best upgrade. Or keep your CPU and save money, if you might buy a new computer next year.

I don't buy computers. I buy the parts and make them myself.

Upgrading from E6700 to E8400 is pointless. If you upgrade, go for Quad Core. My Q6600 is still running the latest games easily.

I really doubt if upgrading to quadcore is worth it, unless u have a way to use it, which is kinda hard today. I wouldnt look at quadcores until theres some real stuff which I need/want to use and it has the support for it.

Tho, until now, I even dont care about dual core, all I could care is frequency, since the things I use and play requires only one core... And very few can utilize two.. not talking about 4 or more. I think its still not the time when quadcores are needed... Maybe another year or two?
