Default Best Bang For the Buck Processor

What do you think is the best bang for the buck processor? Do not factor in the prices of the motherboard, RAM, etc. Just the price of the processor itself. I personally support the i7 920 because of its 8 cores, great OCing ability, and $290.00 USD price tag.

Im still pretty beat about an intel core i7 920 (cheapest and can OC to 4.0 [if u know what your doing])
my next build is definitely going to be one

but ive herd alot of talk on the phenom II's

less money and the performance difference usually isnt too horrible

good luck in shopping

I will say the Phenom 2. It is cheaper here and the performance is very close with the i7s. Other stuff as well, too many to list.

@chrisrobhay2 Core i7 doesn't have 8 cores, just HyperThreading, it DOESN'T work as 8 physical cores (so no near 8.0x speed up in multi threaded apps but USUALLY more than 4.0x so higher than Phenom II).
CPU might not be so expensive, but motherboard for it surely is. I'd rather choose E8200 (great O/C and performance in most applications) or X4 940 (good O/C and performance in multithreaded apps).

I'm going to replace my x2 4800+ with phenom II x3 710 'cos it's cheap as for mid-end new cpu, with some motherboards you can unlock 4th core and it's very clockable.

as they all have been up to now: i'm sure the performance differences between a-md's and in-tel's flagship offerings will be outrageously different according to the usual in-tel/nv-biased-synthetic-bullshit-benchmarks that everyone relies on religiously. however, the differences will be negligible in the real world.
(also, as per usual), the difference in the price tags between the two companies products will certainly be much more noticable. i think a-md will offer more bang for buck as they've done that pretty well through the years...

I know that it has HyperThreading, not actually 8 cores, but if you look in task manager it is listed as 8 cores. Also, I said cost of the processor ITSELF, not the motherboard, RAM, etc.

For pure bang for buck across a variety of uses and considering the cost of the whole platform the Phenom II is truely unbeatable.
