CPU: E5200 2.5ghz 800mhz dc
GPU: 512 mb ati 4870 gddr5
M/B: Gateway MS-7399
RAM: 4gb 800mhz ddr2 sdram
PSU: 550W ultra lsp series
Default How can I overclock my processor

I have an E5200 dual-core processor( not core 2 duo) that is 2.5ghz per core and has a bus speed of 800mhz. I am completely new to this so you can tell if this is a bit too risky for me to do.

you can get 3ghz on it with no risk all u have to do is set your FSB to 240 * multi default to 12.5* lower the ram freq to get under 850 mhz so that your ram will hold and ure set to go remember to test it using occt and core temp/ real temp for the stability and temperature at these settings there is no need to up any voltage so it's perfectly safe and easy to do. give it a try and tell us how it goes.

yes that's stable but there is no overclock cpu is @ stick 2.5ghz try using clock gen ( but that's a joke for oc..) OR just get into bios search for FSB setting an increse it from 200
to 210 for starters

PSU: 1000W Ultra X3

If the motherboard you actually have is the Gateway MS-7399 [as listed in your specs] then that's a very low budget mobo. There are no overclocking settings in it. So, you can quit looking in the BIOS for any.

From the looks of things, you've pretty much done everything you can do with that system to get its best performance. Start looking around for good deals on motherboards and CPUs. Both Micro Center and Fry's have some good deals on combos from time to time. The DDR2 RAM you have should be a good quality RAM to use in the upgrade. DDR3 is still too overpriced, IMHO.
