Since I recently sold my "old" Toshiba I've been thinking of treating myself this xmas/new year and upgrading to something more powerful with core 2 duo and at least 512MB dedicated video RAM inside..

#2 | | Even Simpler | | CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 | | | GPU: Nvidia GF9400+9600M GT | | | M/B: Apple MacBookPro v5.1 | | | RAM: 2x2Gb Samsung/Mac DDR3 | | | PSU: 85w MagSafe External | | At the Best Buy where I work, I saw an interesting Acer with an AMD Turion Ultra ZM-80, 4gb RAM, 320gb HD, ATi 3450, 16'' LCD, Bluray for like 1000$. Seems like great value but god does it have shit battery life! 2 hours max on POWER SAVER! The Intel Centrino platform is unbeatale in that domain, I gotta admit that. But that ACer is just real sweet in terms of performance.

I have been looking at HP's DV7 17" series - P8600 + 512MB 9600GT (DDR3), Vista, 4GB RAM - Now under £950 in the UK.
Also MSI have a new "GT" series 17" gaming laptops which r sweeeet, similar specs as above but slightly more expensive.
One of my primary concerns is the display resolution, i'm so used to high-res gaming now that a standard 1440x900 laptop display just can't satisfy me anymore...the problem is laptops with high res displays are usually a lot more expensive.

maybe i should wait a while until the cost comes down a little more..

Thats why i've opened up a discussion.. to hear peoples suggestions/opinions...which is why its called a forum..?
I'm surprised that more people here aren't interested in gaming laptops though, they're so cool!
Seriously powerful gaming hardware that you can take anywhere? - heaven!

#7 | | Golden Member | | RAM: 4096 Corsair 800 XMS2 | | I finally found a great deal on a gorgeous 17" HP DV7-1020 laptop with core 2 duo P8400 (2.2 GHz -3mb cache), 320GB Hard drive, 4GB ram (& 64-bit Vista to use all that ram) a 9600GT with 512MB dedicated ram (over 2GB video ram with turbocache), HD sound with built-in subwoofer and blu-ray with DVD remote control.
Got it from Currys and I'm really happy with the high performance. I can highly recommend it to anyone looking to buy a decent gaming laptop on a budget. I even managed to save an extra £100 (got it for £699 which was pushing it a little).
- For this price i doubt you'll find a more powerful/better 17" gaming laptop in 2008.
(n.b I would hurry if you're thinking about getting one of these as they are running out of stock of this model - i had to drive to 3 different stores to get it! but last i checked you could still order it online from either Currys or PC world sites)
