#1 | | Professional Member | which cpu has more performance? | | hi guys, i am digging through old hardware once again
so i got two cpu's and one mainboard:
[1] intel pentium 4 1,7GHZ/256/400/1,75V
[2] intel celeron d 2.40GHZ/256/533
i know that celeron has less performance than other cpu's and ususally it has less cache,
but at those two i am not sure as i _GUESS_ that both have 256kb (second number in the spec?)
so therefore i would say the celeron is faster (D -> dual?)
thanks in advance |

#3 | | Professional Member | well this article compares cpu's with 512kb cache and 128kb cache, further there are p4's with 3.0 ghz and celeron with 2.0ghz described.
if you read carefully, you will see that my CELERON has 2.4ghz and my p4 has only 1.7ghz
(afaik the second number shows the cache -> therefore both should have the same amount of cache)
iff i say celeron is 30% less effective than the p4 then i would get an efficience (2.4ghz*0.7 -> 1650mhz VS P4's 1700Mhz, which would be pretty the same...)
thats what i was thinking about. (i did not find a direct comparison of those two cpu's, therefore i hope we have some specialists on the board who know.) |

In every review I've read over the years, a Pentium 4 always rates better than any Celeron. This would be especially true when P-4 has HT. It's also true if you plan to use the system for gaming.
If all you're going to do is browse the internet and read email. any ol' processor will do.

#7 | | Loyal DAAMIT User | I'm pretty sure my dad's old Athlon XP Barton 2500+ destroys both of those CPUs.

#9 | | Loyal DAAMIT User | If it wasn't for the fucking heat, the Athlon XP CPU's were the best in EVERY respect.

#10 | | Master of Disaster | i think the 64's were better then the xp's, clawhammer's always been my favorite anyways, are you sure that p4 would outperform the celeron? ht and shit aside, logically speaking, the celeron has almost 1ghz on the p4 and a faster fsb, the last intel cpu i owned was a celeron 500mhz, was top of the line when i bought it, man that thing was expensive but it got me through like 4 years, i combined it with a geforce mx400 and 512mb or ram and that thing rocked for its time lol |
