i say quad . no matter what a dual core is never a quad . and no amount of frequencies on a dual core will be able to do the things a quad can do .

In the future yes, i a agree, but right now dual cores still out perform quads in many things because quad cores are not yet fully supported by many things

There's more instances where those extra cores are just unwanted heat producing baggage. There's no doubt that more cores are the future, they're just not the present. Even games being released today are barely utilizing dual cores and few come close to maximizing their potential.

Besides the E8500 OCs to 3.8GHz almost for free while a 65nm quad would require heavy cooling and lots more voltage.

the only reason I would go for a quad core would be 1 they are superior in 3d rendering in applications like 3d studio max, and 2 in anticipation of ati's havoc, having a spare core to run it on would be optimal.

That said, the dual core is more appealing as i like to game alot, so i think I will likely end up with the dual core and then upgrade to a quad a year or two down the road when they start to become a little more practical

I dont quie have the money to build the system right now anyways, hoping ill be able to save up during christmas time and get the most bang for my buck, maybe cash in on some sales
