the reviews it has been in, the thermaltake 680w psu is far from quiet, most people i know
returned it because of that. Forton Source (FSP) makes good powersupplies that are quiet.

Pretty much, anything with a 120mm Fan will be quiet, and give you all the power you need !

#5 | | Guest | how about the fanless PSU? I heard they literally make 0 dba of noise. Anyone got any input on those? trustworthy? O, although im currently not using SLI, i might in the future, so with 4800+ processor, 4 hard drives and 2 x 7900GTX would about 500w be enough? | |

I wouldn't trust that the system would be able to move the air around enough to keep it cool. The last thing you want is fluxuating lines or a fire....
I would highly recommend something in the 600Watt - 700Watt range for DualCore and/or SLI. They aren't that much more expensive, and have the extra connections you need. Try to stay away from splitters and adapters. Messy, don't always work, and aren't supported by the companies if the warranty is needed.
Like I said, if you want quiet, look for a PSU with a 120MM fan. Either Antec, Enermax, FSP Group, or OCZ are excellent choices. Great prices, and great performance!

As for how much wattage you are going to need, you can find a nice meter tool, over here: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/. If the peak usage is going to be at or past 500w, then, go for a 550w or 600w psu !
My OCZ PSU I can't hear at all due to its 120mm fan (ModStream 520w). It is rated at 520w max, and a peak of 620w. I can't run it past 520w for 24/7 use, that peak is measured only in seconds, otherwise the protection will kick in.
