Testing alchemy to see if it really re enables EAX in vista. Tomorrow I'm going to install call of duty and see what happens.

I personally have an ASUS Xonar DX, the quality of the sound is excellent. The first drivers that were released were extremely shaky, but the latest version fixed a lot of issues, it's a very solid card now.

OK i tried call of duty on vista would not run something about buffer over run. So i tried call of duty 2 and it will only let me pick Eax Eax 2 and 3 im not sure if call of duty supports eax 4 or 5. One odd thing I notice is with or with out creative alchemy The game would let me pick eax 1,2 or 3 but with alchemy on the sound did seem to sound better the foot steps and when you jump up and down the gun fire ect. I cant say for sure if it really help a lot or not but it did seem to help. Here's a good article about eax and vista

Have you look at Auzentech sound cards? they use the X-fi but I here they use higher quality parts.

Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic is a full X-Fi Platinum card, the only difference is that is missing the front panel and instead of 64MB of X-RAM, it has only 2MB which the developer doesn't have access. That's why they discontinued the XtremeMusic for the XtremeGamer SKU because its cheaper to manufacture.

Alchemy worked for me in games like Far Cry, Call of Duty 2 and it improves the sound quality and performance in games.

I would go for an Auzen X-Raider 7.1. I own an Auzentech X-Plosion and the difference after switching to it was huge.
