Default LCD monitor flickers...

Hi there
My lcd monitor flickers randomly when i switch to 3d games or so ..
Let me try to explain ..
I set att fan control to 80 and when that flicker happens,i have black screen for 3~4 minutes, music played at background freezes, after couple seconds it goes back to normal and fan control on automatic again ....
What could be the problem here?

Thumbs up Check Cable & Refresh Rate Etc

Hi, it may not be your refresh rate that is causing the problem, but I would goto your display settings to check what resolution you are using and what the refresh rate is, and make sure the box that says "dont allow refresh rates that my monitor does not support" is highlighted\ticked.

I think you need to check the cable, it may sound strange but if the cable is even a bit loose it may be causing the lag, I had this problem once and realised it was simply a loose connection at the back of my PC, even though it worked it would random go blank for a moment, also re-seat the graphics card in the PCI-E port, just in-case, check the power cable to the graphics card, a loose cable or connection could be causing the problem.

You may even go as far as replacing the DVI, HDMI or VGA cable, Im assuming you are using DVI or HDMI cable from the graphics card to monitor, funny as it sounds a cheap quality HDMI cable that is only made for DVDs & TV may also be causing the problem, many users buy cheap HDMI cables and think they will work perfectly, but they can cause problems as many of them are designed for TV only, I would check this, if you need to replace it, replace it with a decent quality cable that are designed to work with monitors, you might not think there is a difference but trust me there is.

Good Luck and I hope you manage to sort it out, also dont forget to re-install your drivers, check all the settings within control panel etc.

All the Best Good Luck.

Hmmm.
Thanks for reply archwarrior.
Eran,I'm using DVI cable that I got with the monitor.
Maybe I should try to connect DVI cable through that thing that I got with the video card, whatever it called...

Smile Cable or Refresh Rate?

Hi I trust you have checked you refresh rates, I see some people are suggesting it is the refresh rate and is nothing to do with the cable but I disagree, YES it maybe be your refresh rate that is the problem so you need to check your display settings in control panel and your ATI CCC, but if its happening in all games its surely not the refresh rate, and if its not happening on desktop and only in games well... its another story, yes check your in-game resolution settings, try different settings, such as 1280x1024 etc to see if it fixes the problem.

The problem could be the simple fact that the cable not carrying the signal correctly, it may be loose or just cheap, I certainly see it is short LOL, try a DVI - DVI cable, I use a DVI - DVI, (Belkin PureAV Blue-Series High Quality DVI-DVI), low quality cables do not support higher resolutions of upto 1600x1200 & Higher, they dont carry the signal correctly, many people would argue with me but its true, low quality cables cannot support really high HD resolutions, and thats why when you go to a cable site the manufacturer will tell you what the highest resolution your cable will carry, eg:
HTML Code:
http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=264826
goto features page and notice its says: supports resolutions of 1600x1200 & higher.

or try a higher quality DVI - HDMI, IXOS is a great brand or Tech+Link Wires is also a great brand, Belkin will suffice, but get a PureAV or Blue-Pro Series DVI-HDMI, IXOS & Tech-Link can be very expensive, I have purchased a brand new Techlink Wires XS70 which cost me £40 for 2m, which I purchased when I was going to upgrade my graphics card, but I didnt so Ive got a brand new HQ cable Ive never used LOL. Take a look its here.
HTML Code:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Techlink-Wires-XS70-Premium-Cable/dp/B000UVQF08/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1253582003&sr=1-1
To conclude check all that we have discussed refresh rates, ATI CCC, lower resolutions if that does not work well just go and try a decent cable.

I hope you manage to sort it. all the best bye for now.

Also,I turned off any refresh rate control, and just using 60Hz by the windows ....
I have couple local stores here to check, but no idea how to decide which cable to buy
And how can I know if the cable is good or not?

For example,i have 60 and 75 hertz on 1280x800 resolution, and i want to remove the 60 one, that default will be 75,and no more switching hertz on that resolution.
Is it possible to remove screen refresh rate hertz from windows registery or something.?
