Default Seagate ST3250310AS (7200.10) - piece of sh***

Once upon a time.... i bought hdd Seagate ST3250310AS (7200.10), sata II, 8MB cache, 7200rpm etc. Drive is really silent, not slow, just perfect for home usage. After 9 months of its work it started to work strange way: only when i was using its partitions it was starting to work. First thing what i thought was "probably it is some kind of power saving feature". I changed my mind few weeks later, when i had os installed on this drive and os couldn't start. Computer was rebooting, hdd powering off, etc. I made data backup to other hdd and sent this seagate to service to repair it. They changed it for new one and sent me back. Today, it is two, maybe three weeks after change, this changed one started to work same way like this one before fail.

Not so long time ago we all read about problems with firmware in 7200.11 serie. Few days ago i've read few posts one day about various (7200.10 and 7200.11) seagate's drives what made problems to their users.

I have one more sagate hdd, 7200.10 320GB sata II 16MB cache. This one is making no problems in stability of its work, but how loud it is working is incredible! When i had os installed on this one it was working louder than my palit 3850!!!! Even when i was launching programs like foobar2000 or utorrent.

My conclusion:
I will never more buy hdd from seagate.

there was a time when seagate and wd were pretty good but i don't about now.

i've been hooked on samsung drives for a while.
fast, cool, quiet drives at the right price point.
collected five units in the last five years; no failures.
i have a 160gb, 320gb, and 2x 750gb and i think i'm going for the 1tb next for an external...

before i started buying samsung i was using all ibm (hitachi?) units which are all still working too but too small to waste electricity on).
come to think of it, i haven't bought a seagate, wd or maxtor in at least 10 years...

I had one Seagate drive in my entire life and it had failed on me. The one Samsung drive I had in my computer also failed after 2 months (it was a 200gb SATA 2 model with 8 Mb cache), but my dad still has an old 80gigbyte Samsung Spinpoint IDE that still works flawlessly. My favorites drives used to be Quantums, but now Western Digital are my personal favorite. Still using a 5 year old WD Caviar 120gb SATA that definitely went through hell, still flawless.
