Default Thinking for an upgrade?

Anybody here are expecting to upgrade their computer?

What do you want to upgrade, why?

As for me, as soon as I start my new job (been job-less for 2 months now), will maybe upgrade my CPU to the AMD Deneb Phenom if the prices are reasonable (under 250$ with taxes). And no, I don't give a flying fuck about Nehalem, mainly because I don't give a fuck about Intel.

Just a few minor upgrades to HDD and RAM capacity in a few months for obvious reasons. The RAM upgrade will have the secondary significance of increasing my OC limit.

*Cough*: "thinking about an upgrade?"

I agree that 4gb of RAM does give you a considerable advantage over 2gb, especially in a 64-bit environnement.

Why do you OC? Isn't your computer good enough? Or are you doing it just to see how far you can take your machine?

A 4870 is a massive improvement over a 3870 (gamingwise) and you'll also be able to user higher resolutions/bigger monitors if you wish or higher settings and more AA/AF if you're sticking with your current resolution. Ideally you'd get both but if you have to prioritize then the 4870 gets top priority without a doubt.

I'm only interested in 24/7/365 stable OCs. I can't tell you whether it's the OCing itself that's enjoyable or the performance gain or the knowledge that I'm getting more out of what I have.

Well proble in 3 days i sell my card , But i dont know what to pick .

At the same price range i must chose from 9800 GTX+ 512 or the 4850 512 .

Whit card is faster ??? just cut the normal ATi vs nVidia crap .

I'am think I'll buy another 2GB of RAM and maybe change my 2900Xt for an 4780 with an after market cooler. Btw is a 1GB version is worth buying?

You would have to use astronomical resolutions to see a difference.

Being, I admit it, an ATi fanboy, I would get the 4850. But realisticaly, the 9800GTX+ (I'm pretty shure) will run cooler, and I also think it has pretty equal performance compared to the HD4850. Perhaps just get the one that's less expensive.
