Well ASRock have released a interesting version of an Intel X48-based motherboard: the X48TurboTwins-WiFi. Basically, has same quality than an ASUS board minus the overclocking bloat in the BIOS and all the useless features of the X48 taken out. Awesome price as well. Although hard to find, would definitely be on my priority list for an Intel-based system.

btw unix what's up with the temp sensors on 45nm cpu's ... what software could i really trust?

Here's a comprehensive guide encompassing thermal measurements of all Intel Core2 processors, it's a long read but very complete:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/22...perature-guide

Not feeling too good after that loss of text, I'll have to be more careful.

I'll give you a short version. When dealing with 45nm processors you'll face different programs which display different temps, this can occur at idle, load or even both. In a nutshell the only number you can rely on for load conditions is the direct reading from the DTS.

The DTS is a sensor which measures the delta (in degrees Celsius) from the threshold at which throttling will occur. So instead of increasing, this number will decrease under load. Unlike other readings this is the only true reading you'll get from the CPU's sensor, no program will display it differently.

Realtemp is extremely useful in that it displays this parameter for each core along with the capability to test for stuck sensors and to calibrate (to your best) the temperature reading. The latest version of Realtemp uses the TJMax info released at IDF to calculate core temperature (TJMax-Distance to TJMax) but remember idle measurements will never be very accurate.

The final parameter which may be helpful is the motherboard's CPU sensor which is usually around 5c cooler than the core readings, with all 3 of these parameters you can hopefully get the best out of your 45nm gem.

You can download Realtemp 2.75 (beta) here

Updated post.
So what's next? A 4870 or a 4850?

thanks a lot for the info unix i was starting to get dizzy with all those different temp read's
as for the next upgrate, i'm thinking of a dual slot cooled 4850 but next month still playing with the e5200 and the new cooler i got for it.

PS:The server at www.tomshardware.com is taking too long to respond.

This weekend I bought an ASUS M3N78-VM motherboard to get PCI-E2.0 and AM2+. It was on special so I went for that. Brought it home, installed everything, powered the machine (everything was properly installed I checked). 2 VRM's fried, 1 cap literally IMPLODED, and it nearly fried one of my DIMMs. Heh. Got a refund, and at least this saved me from an Nvidia board.
