i had read something about platters organization.
And it's better to buy a 640gb instead of a 500gb, because platter have optimized organization.
But i don't know much ! So if someone have more info about it i'll take it too.

External HDD is only good for mobility purposes. Otherwise, you should go for internal HDD.

well external disks are better if you ask me
it use esata, sata, firewire and usb
you can easy connect it to network or to pc and it is good if you meed mobile storage
but there is one problem LOW DATA Transfer
if you can take WesternDigital WDH1Q5000 (200$) it is realy fast one

I use a 300 gig IDE myself, had it for almost a year..
It's great to store stuff on like files and pictures..
True it's a little slow, on my system it's not that bad..
If you have a newer defrg program you can even defrag it too.

What i like about it is i can put it anywhere within reach of usb cable, so unless you see the cable you not gonna find it (lol) ... jk

I'll tell you what, get a internal Seagate or Western Digital 500GB 32MB cache HDDs and also get a external encloure for the HDDs which is about $14 on newegg.com. This way you can use the drive as an external HDD or an internal one !

If you want extreme mobility you can get a laptop HDD , I am not sure, I think you get max about 300GB and again get an external enclosure for it. Since laptop HDDs are small they can fit in your pocket.
