Default LCD refresh rate fix?

Does anyone have any advice on this, I want to know if there is a way to improve the refresh rate on my widescreen 22" Video7 flat monitor?

The max refresh rate on my monitor is normally 60hz (i have only 2 options: 59hz/60hz)

but when I'm gaming at my normal 1650x1050 @ 60 hz I get many jagged lines across the screen which is really starting to get annoying, is there anything I can do to stop or reduce this happening??

Thanks!

Erm, you can't increase your monitor's refresh rate. I don't think these jagged lines has anything to do with the refresh rate, check out your scaling options in the ForceWare control panel.

Your monitor will only support certain refresh rates at different resolutions and you can damage it if you force incorrect refresh rates.
.
It seems strange you've posed this question as the answer is in your forum nick name....Vsync.
.
Tearing is caused when your frame rate exceeds your monitor refresh rate.
Rather than trying to increase the refresh rate just enable vsyn either in game or using a external tool. That locks your frames per second to the same as your monitor refresh rate.

Once you've enabled vsync it can cause frame rates slow down at times and you should try forcing triple frame buffering

If you really want to try using different refresh rates there are utilities available...here's one

I was going to suggest exactly the same thing. Turning on V-Sync will most likely take care of most, if not all, of that 'tearing' that you're seeing...which is what I 'think' you're describing by the 'jagged lines' comment.

Hehe, well its no surprise that as per my nickname I try to make sure that v-sync is on most of the time. (actually, i've been trying to change my nickname for ages now but Reg keeps ignoring my e-mails -most probably because I have already changed it once before - Reg, can you hear me? I've made up my mind now!)

I find it proves the framerates most of the time, its just that sometimes occasionally I find it can also severely limits the framerates as well and this happens especially when i have triple-buffering enabled at the same time. I guess i'll just have to try and find a happy balance between the two.

You're right, recently when I was overclocking my GPU's I found my framerates being limited too much and I switched off the the v-sync which is probably why I'm seeing all these jagged lines now - silly me!

Now that you reminded me I will enable it again and see if I can get the balance right, I think in order to do this I will leave the triple buffering switched off though and see if that helps. Thanks
