Shut down and remove the old XP install HD then insert XP CD into machine and it should detect the formatted 500GB drive and as long as you have a floppy with the SATA drivers required during the install you should be fine
I had similar issues with a WD 500GB SATA HD |

That worked... Somehow. I reset everything, then the only thing I changed what setting CD drive to boot first.
Windows XP is ALMOST done installing now. Thanks!
