install XP on another disk and boot to it, then go into Administrative Tools and run the disk managment tool and do all the partition and format crap there and set it to active. Shut down and remove the old XP install HD then insert XP CD into machine and it should detect the formatted 500GB drive and as long as you have a floppy with the SATA drivers required during the install you should be fine

I had similar issues with a WD 500GB SATA HD

That worked... Somehow. I reset everything, then the only thing I changed what setting CD drive to boot first.

Windows XP is ALMOST done installing now. Thanks!

i typically use partision magic as the windows disk manager is a little faulty and doesnt always recognize the drive, i find partition magic to be very useful and always works like a charm

Sorry for a late reply, but it does use SP2. Now I've just been having problems with windows, so I'm using Slackware, but I'll probably go back to windows soon.... well, I'll probably dual boot.
