Default HP 635 Dig cam issue

Just celebrated my dads 70th birthday yesterday and a few of the really good pictures I took on another camera and not my Sony Cybershot.

I tried connecting the camera directly to a USB port and well as connecting it through a docking bay that comes with it ... will not transfer the pictures. Comes up with the message "establishing contact with the computer" and thats it.

I have:

1) Installed the drivers and software that came with it

2) DLed and installed the drivers from the HP site

3) Tried using a rear USB port as opposed to a front one as mentioned in the FAQ there

4) Updated my chipset drivers

5) Tried 3 USB cords including my Sony one I know works

6) Tried rechargable batteries and the AC adapter that came with it for power

This is an older camera my brother gave my parents and hes working so I can't call him.

THX for any help

try to physically hold the USB cable snug to the camera when you attach it and see if the pressure of holding the cable snug to where the USB cable connects to your PC makes the connection any better

Just tried that and if you turn the camera on plug the cable into the camera and then the PC the camera picks it up and comes up "Establishing contact with the computer" and doesn't change no matter how snug you hold it or even move it around a bit. Its seeing the puter the puter and the software isn't seeing it for some reason. Tested all 6 USB ports with the Sony camera as soon as you plug it in a window pops up instantly.
