Default Something's Puzzling Me: Monitor Ref Weirdness

I'm not the only one interested in an answer to this question:

Why are CRTs limited to 60 Hz when selecting 1400x1050 for a Resolution? On both of my own CRTs, that's the case. Anything just higher or lower allows higher RRs but, when selecting 1400x1050, even with "Hide Modes...." disabled, the RR is still limited to 60 Hz.

Anyone have a definite answer as to how or why this limitation exists?

1400x1050 is a custom resolution and the monitor does not have any refresh rate information for it. The driver controls the refresh rate for custom resolutions and the default is 60Hz because this resolution is for LCDs (LCD and 60Hz is like Beer and smoking). You can try to avoid it by using RefreshForce.

Can't we simply edit the .inf for the monitor?

I think no because is on the monitor is not the system blocking it
Well check about that or you can go on your options and unclick on block the unsuported refresh frequency but it's at your risks Well you can crap your monitor to do that but 60 herz is ok? Why you want more higher?
