CPU: Phenom II x3 720 @ 3.4
GPU: Radeon HD4870 OC
M/B: MSI 790FX-GD70
RAM: OCZ DDR3 4gb
PSU: OCZ 700w
Default Cant OC my vid card all of the sudden, Please Help

Hey guys, i figured id ask this here cuz your all knowladgeable with this stuff.

I have a Geforce 6600 GT, i always run it OC'd, i was playing a game the oter day and it crashed and i got no signal on the monitor, so i restarted now it did it with every game, id run the game and as soon as it was done with the intro movies it would crash and id get no signal, so i updated the drivers to the latest ones, and tied again, same thing happened only this time on restart the NV Sentinel thing told me that i didnt have enough power to support the card and it dropped the clock freq's down to stock.

Now if i try to overclock even a little bit the test fails, when i try to test the stock frequensies it fails too, the games work now but i cant overclock at all, even the stock freq's fail the test.

I think its important to note that this happened to me once a while ago, but i ended up formating cuz i couldnt figure it out and it worked fine after, i could overclock and everything, so it cant be a hardware issue its gotta be something messed up in the OS.

Please if anyone knows the solution to this i would greatly appriciate it, this card is too weak without being OC'd lol gotta figure this out.

Thanks for your time and help!

All the Best
~Dave

Well i have Gigabyte 6600 GT AGP , and i did have something colse to this . my psu start to fail , i dint notice it but at some point i needed to drop OC from CPU , and GPU , i dint know why , the fan was clean , and i did get the same "not enought power" thing. I runned Asus probe , and at some point i heard the beeb that signals something bad happening i looked at temps , every thing was fine , so i looked at the voltages , and ther it was . At full load everything was meesed up. I Upgraded it to some 400w PSU. The rig startet to work like it shuld.

I know you say its not HW problem but try to run some probe that monitors voltages , this is not too acurate but in case of real bad PSU you will know.

PS. The damaged PSU was almos new so it was not that it die from age.

the thing is that its done this before, and it worked fine again after a format, so it couldnt be the psu could it? if it were then it wouldnt have been corrected with a format, i dunno, i wish i could afford a new computer this one is giving me so many problems lately

I would suggest SIS Sandra as well your not sure if its the same issue and I did have some "Hairy Bast#rd" years ago damage his viddy card with continued O/Cing shhh.

So don't speculate run a full test of all your hardware and software

well i got sandra, it doesnt seem to have anything peticularliy useful, maybe im just not looking in the right place, i ran the analysys and advice thing, it was mostly useless except it reported my cpu voltage as beeing too low but i honestly dont think it detects anything properly, ive never had much faith in stuff like sandra or everest, its usualy wrong. This is so annoying, its gotta be something with the os, cuz a format fixed it last time, but im not down with doing that agian, theres gotta be something, and the card idle's at 39C OC'd and peaks at about 55 so theres no way i damaged it through OCing, i blame microsoft, would it kill them to make something that works properly.

Rivatuner and windows xp sp2

oddly enough i just went back into riva after a restart and the freq's are back to my oc'd freq's, but the games still crash the system and result in no signal, but the tests dont seem to fail now, this all started when i was playing need for speed most wanted, i had a trainer on to give me extremly fast exceleration, i was goin like crazy for quite some time then all the suddent it just crashed, i think some setting somewhere somehow got changed or corrupted and now its messed up
