if they can do it with normal efficience its ok, but oc is waste of energy (in most cases - as you drop the power saving functions - noone uses his computer @100% all the time - most computers idle 90% of the time...)
a i7 920 has its best $/wattage @ 3,33Ghz if its loaded (not at idle...)

edit: mentioning power consumption may be not of interest in the OC section though

I guess that wouldn't include my i7 them My cpu is all so a very good heater heats my room right up. I should try cooking a egg on it.

note, i was wrong its a bit better at 3,66

yours is running at 4,5 ghz thats why your room is heating up.
you will notice it on the bill, as it will not consume a bit more energy, it swallows energy
everything above 3,33 raises the power consumption, and this function is not linear means if you oc more it consumes multiple times

so from this image you could takte the data and calculate this to percentage

and as quick note if i remember right, the increased voltage will also burn out your cpu faster (kills it faster than on normal voltage - does not matter if you plan to buy a computer/cpu every year anyway )

EDIT: is it possible to overclock a 920 to 3,33 without loosing the power saving options???? <- i did not find an answer for this (but you can oc it till this point without changing the power settings from auto to manual increase)

Ya but thats in DC not Ac right? Anyway I really don't care if it using more power it wouldn't cost that much more anyways using a microwave or water heater would take way more watts the my computer would. My room heats up also because I have my ps3 folding 24/7 when Im not using it. It puts out a lot of heat I have a intercooler on it and some times the heat coming out of the vents feels like it could burn you if you held your hand on the vents long enough.

well you can always argue that the neighbours two plasma display uses 1400w+ whereat your computer uses only 1000w

microwave and water heater are running how long per day? 5 minutes?
your computer is maybe up 10-24 hours...

i have tip-switches for all my electronic stuff, also television

therefore i save a LOT of money per year, which i can buy good stuff from

example, our neigbour with pretty the same electronic hardware at home pays 100 euro per month, whereat i pay only 40 euro per month. which is quite a difference when you calculate the value for one year -> 60x12 = 720 euro which ends up in a nice i7 965 cpu or something else

Are water heater is used a lot as well as are microwave. I love microwaving kitten's and puppy's oh I have so many issues. Anyway that chart is probably cpus running at a 100% which mine hardly does. Neweggs power supply calculator says my computer is using about 712W which isn't much when you think about space heaters dish washers washers dryers ect which in my house we use every day. West Virginia power pries isn't to bad we have a lot of coal and Hill billy's on hamster wheels. Give then a little Moon shine and they will run intill they drop dead.

correct me if i am wrong.
as you are ocing your computer you disable all power saving options, therefore it does not matter if you idle or use it at full power. therefore your computer does not save wattage it constantly uses 1.5? V for cpu -> 130W+ for cpu constant.

true/false?

or is it possible to keep power management enabled? (not even sure if you can keep it enabled if you oc it to 3,33@auto voltage...) tell me, i am curious about this one...
