CPU: Phenom II x3 720 @ 3.4
GPU: Radeon HD4870 OC
M/B: MSI 790FX-GD70
RAM: OCZ DDR3 4gb
PSU: OCZ 700w
Default Help me OC this rig

Hey Guys, so I wanna OC this rig (the one to the left)

Right now ive got it at 3.2cpu, 2.2NB and 2.2HTT

I want to take it up to 3.4cpu and 2.4Nb, I know I need to change the voltages but I dont know what to.

The system runs fairly cool, ive got the coolermaster Hyper 212 HSF with the dual fan push/pull setup, theres 1 120mm intake fan on the front of the case, a 120 exause, a 80mm fan in the side panel and the PSU has a 120mm exaust.

Right now @3.2 the cpu runs at 33-34C Load, the mobo registers as 34-36 (according to everest) but I dont know where that sensor is, HDD is 31 and vid card is between 50-60.

I know I can push this cpu and board up to 3.8cpu and 2.8NB but I dont have the cooling for that and I dont want to stress it too much so I think 3.4 and 2.4 will be just right with the cooling I have.

Anyways, if anyone could help me figure out the voltages it would be greatly appriciated.

Why do you want to overclock this computer? It seems like a very good machine to me.

It is, but it could be just a little bit faster, no matter how fast they are they could always be faster lol

I always see it this way: if it's not fast enough for you, you didn't buy the right thing. Working in IT believe me I've seen some weird shit happen to OC'ed computers...

Well the reason I went with the 720 is because of money, in a year I hope to pop in a 965 or better if amd releases anything else for AM3 (like that rumored C3 stepping chip *fingers crossed*), but im a graphical designer and 3d modeler so every second I can shave off of rendering time is money in the bank.

Im not too worried about blowing it, the motherboard is made for OC'ing, people are running this cpu and mobo stable at 3.7ghz cpu and 2.6ghz NB, the max ive heard someone running thic peticular cpu is 3.8 and I know a guy running this board with a 955 and he's got his NB at 2.8 stable, thats why I bought this board lol

Anyways the BIOS in the board is quite good and will tell you the safe and unsafe voltages, the only reason I ask is because I really dont want to mess around wit hthe voltages and have to constantly change and test them, I just want the optimal voltages to run the cpu at 3.4 and the NB at 2.4 so that they are just enough but not too much so minimize heat.

Although the CPU is running extreamly cool at 3.2 with NB 2.2 and HTT 2.2, peaks at about 34C load

Infact the only thing that concerns me is this 4870, ive got it OC'd to only 800gpu and 1000 memory and its hittin almost 100C with the fan at 80%, really not impressed with that

Chips are always different one to one... so comparating to another is really hard to do...

@ HotHardware they made good results....
