#1 | | Newbie | Question about CPU cooler Listen recently my computer started shutting down due a high temp from the CPU (i got AMD athlon X2 Dual core 64-bit +5200)so i decided to get a new cpu cooler my question is which should i buy? thermaltake V1 ,Thermalright Ultra-120 extreme or Zalman CNPS9700 LED ?
another question if my power supply will be able to hold every thing
My processor:AMD athlon X2 Dual core 64-bit +5200
My motherboard :Gigabye GA-M61PM S2
My GPU:GeForce8800GTS 640 mb
any my power supply is from channel well technology of 600W
will it be able to hold my hardware with the new CPU cooler?
another question my case size is 41X17.5X42 will it have some space for any of the cpu coolers mentioned above? |

For the cooler... Personaly ive got an CNPS9700 who do an awsome job... For your psu... It should be... just give us more specs about your computer... over here ive got an 4850 with an 500W PSU... and i would be able to put an second 4850.As i can see u got an Micro-ATX board... but it sould be ok for the cpu cooler... the only way to know if it will fit it's to go on the zalman website . I hope it helped you and if you have any others questions come back and we will try to help you |

Your CPU is the 65nm version correct? So it shouldn't overheat unless you checked it out in the BIOS screen. Try checking the paste or seating if it is alright. I use a lower model than IModAmd (9500) and it works just fine (it is turning brown though, looks ugly) but if you want an aftermarket cooler, go for Thermalright (nickel plating is nice). Or if you want dead quiet, go for the Noctua NH-C12P (nickel plating as well). But your measurements don't give a lot of clearing and clearing is also essential for cooling, in this case I would say the Noctua NH-C12P. |

I am also dubious about the high temp shutting off your unit. Getting a new cooler is always a good idea if you have any second thoughts. Arctic Cooling is usually reviewed as a middle strength cooler, but I bought one (Freezer 7--I have an Intel CoreDuo E 8400 overclocked, but there is a twin model for AMD). The bugger was only 27 dollars and it works just as well as they say the Zalmans do. Under load--when I'm using a stress test for my overclock--my CPU stays in the 48-52 range, and it idles way under 30. The secret is to use Arctic Silver 5, put a pea-size glob on the proc AND on the heatsink, use an old credit card and slowly work that stuff over every exposed micron of metal on both. If you want, you could lap the surfaces, but that is a little too much like work for me. Anyway, I am very satisfied with my cooler and temps, and heat has never been a problem in my overclocking.
best of luck

#6 | | Edelweiss Corporal | I use Scyte Katana with my E2160 1.8 OC`ed to 3.2ghz with FSB 400 , and i have max 62 C in full load with the fan turning at 50%.
And it was cheap as hell .

It reduced my temperature by over 10°C Celcius under full load. That I find, is a fucking good deal.

you shuld try lowering the multipler one step and pumping up the FSB with the same 3.2 ghz
