Default Arctic Cooling S1 Rev.2 VS Thermaltake Duorb

So is the Arctic Cooling S1 better or the Thermaltake Duorb when operated on hot cards like the 8800GT?

both are good coolers, The S1 requires the turbo kit to compete with the DuOrb. The turbo fan kit is very flimsy so I pick DuOrb

I'm with Chaos on this. I'd pick DuOrb as well. I'm not a big fan of the S1 because its aimed for low noise rather then low noise+performance. DuOrb's installation is easier as well.

Does the DuOrb cool the memory modules on the 8800GT as well?

The VF1000 is around the same price but requires extra ram sinks to be purchased. On the other hand it has a better installation technique and fan speed control that the duorb lacks.

yup heard about the lack of fan speed control. but nonetheless it performs well even wif juz 2 heat pipes. the S1 is pretty good too wif the turbo modules but tat's of coz extra cost. the VF 1000 looks really cool with the whole thing in copper but the extra cost of gettin the RAMheatsinks is really a big let down...so guys ur conclusion is if one puts performance over noise, choose Duorb. If otherwise, choose S1 right?

In terms of cooling performance of a 8800GT/GTS: S1+turbo<VF1000<DuORB
Thermaltake wins this one.

In terms of noise: VF1000(silentmode)<S1+turbo<VF1000(max fan speed)<DuORB
The Arctic Cooling wins this one because it's overall silent while being a good enough performer. The thermaltake is noisy which prevents it from being the ultimate cooler.

In terms of the mounting mechanism: Zalman's VF1000 wins for the use of rubber rings and springs to dampen noise and prevent the screws from being over-tightened.

As far as looks are concerned: Thermaltake looks the best if you like LEDs and S1 is just ugly. But who cares about looks?

For me i definitely dont care about looks coz i cant see it once it's in the case haha. the LED lights while kinda cool at night, it really is unnecessary and cant be turned off.. Oh, i'm quite surprised that the VF 1000 loses to the Duorb in terms of cooling performance! As for the S1's passive mode, it gets kinda too hot if the casing doesnt have exceptional air flow but i heard from a friend of mine that with the turbo modules on, it isnt quiet at all infact it is noisier than the VF 1000 and Duorb! hmmm...
