Well I runned into strange thing why overclocking my new rig.

Fee things i need to explayn first .

First. My mobo is Abit IP35-E , it can eazly stand FSB up 500 , So it cant be why limits me.

Second thing. Memorys can run at 900 mgz with 4-4-4-12 timings.
I tested it , Perfect stable , lil higher voltage.
This sticks have cooling on them so not temp. problem.

And same for PSU and Cooling , its Katana 2 , temps never gone more that 50 at full load.

Now i gonna give you 3 sets of Bios. And after this i explayn the rest.

FSB = 300
Multi. = 9x
CPU = 2.7Ghz
CPU:RAM : 1-1.5
DDR = 900mgz
Timings= 4-4-4-12

Ok that was the first OC that i did make , i did go strait to that becos i knowed that my system can run it with no problems.
I did raise one step both core and mem voltages.
The rig runs perfect stable at this set.
So i rised it higher and higher , when i runed into troubles.


FSB = 333
Multi. = 9x
CPU = 3.0Ghz
CPU:RAM : 1-1.25
DDR = 832mgz
Timings= 4-4-4-12

And at this set i got BSOD while system was loading. Or while stating up some app.
Well so i think i need more voltage on the cpu , i rise it one step.
Boot and still the same. rising voltages did have any effect on this.
And keep in minde this CPU can stand eazly 3.2 ghz.
I even set the CPU:RAM to 1:1 So the freg. for mems was very low.
Still BSOD.
And then i tryed one thing.
I lowered mem latencys to 5-5-5-15

And now its like this


FSB = 356
Multi. = 9x
CPU = 3.20Ghz
CPU:RAM : 1-1.25
DDR = 890mgz
Timings= 5-5-5-15

And this runs perfecly smoooth and stable. Temps at full load 48-52 C and lower.


The question is , why lowering latencys of memory given me muth higher OC ??
Remember that lowering memory speed dint have any effect.

Im must admit that im newbie with overclocking.
But i picked parts that shuld stand what i do with it.

Because ... when your latencies was too much high... so the system crashes... when you overclocked your cpu your memory was overclocked... so less voltage for the latencies... then stay at thoses latencies and all will be fine... if you want to put the latencies at 4-4-4-12... give it more voltage... but don't go too much higher of your Voltage Protection Or the warrenty of your modules will be finish

IModAmd , that what you write is perfect clear , but I LOWERED the CPURAM to 1:1 , this makes ram run at 600 mgz if i remember good why cpu is at 3.0 . So as you see i did maintain it at safe freg.

Chill mate , its a late time post for me to , lots of gramma miss , but thats normal for me cos i never got even one hour of english lesson , i learned it myself .
I happy with this OC , but i want know what can be the problem befor i push it more.

Lower frequencies requires less work from the latency of your memory sticks.
Thats why they get more stable when you lower the frequency and rise the latency.

"When the memories are transporting less data(600MHz) it doesnt need to have high latencies because its transporting small "amount" of data, but when it is running at 1 GHz it requires more latency to complete the work".
I quoted that because that "explanation" is not 100% correct, there are more tecnical explanations out there, but thats mine quick and easy to understand explanation.

Hehhehe i pushed it even more.

I found out that lowering the CPU to 3.2 alow me to get very high with the ram.

So now its like this :



FSB = 356
Multi. = 9x
CPU = 3.20Ghz
CPU:RAM : 1-1.50
DDR = 1067mgz (the rams are 800mhz nominal)
Timings= 5-5-5-15


the extra 200 mhz on the ram , boosted the performance big time. And the Geil`s are only warm not hot , after 5 hours of mem test , No errors detected. Same with normal usage of the rig , no crashes , or BSOD.


But the sad part is that i picked too slow rams , i gonna swith this one to the same Geil Ultra but with higher freg. and push them more.

set it 1:1 and rise a cpu voltage and rise fsb so ram can go on 700-800 with 4-4-4-12
