Default Intel Core 2 Duo E2140

Today I had the chance to play around with Intel’s E2140. A low-end processor in the $70-$90 range, and I’m very impressed. I’ve managed to overclock it around to 2.8 GHz from the stock 1.6 GHz, and that’s by using the stock air cooler with the stock thermal paste. I’m very impressed about Intel lately, and their processors are overclocking monsters. I’m not used to it, been AMD user for a long time and never had any luck with AMD’s overclocking. Bloody hell, even E2140 is better then Phenom, lol.

LOL

Interesting on the post as I have an E2180 for my big upgrade in stock tomorrow. Not sure if I am going to pick that up this week or save it for a test machine upgrade I am thinking about. Gigabyte X38 Mobo is 1/2 paid for and laid away.

On the E21xx series in general and especially the E2180 as Genrage and I found by searching O/Ced it might give your Q6600 a run for its money

The older Celerons and even the Prescott are hard to O/C because they run so hot. Intel has done a lot with the newer CPU's as far as heat and power dissipation. For me to O/C that Prescott based core from 2.8 to 3.12 I had to add a modified Freezer 7 Pro cooler just to handle the heat.

The E2180 power consumption is 65W the E6400 is the same. In this review they O/Ced an E6400 stable to 3.4G with air cooling

well it is safe
maybe because if you remember that few years ago intel have made somthing like temp switch that can shut down your cpu if temps go too high (but dont relay on that)
main point of overclocking is geting high results but overclocking is searching for much beter cooling
anyway core duo is very good when you take a look on his ability to gain high oc without geting that much heat well i can say that i was surprised when i have seen its oc first time

and one more thing: overclocking is not same as overvoltage so dont get confused
because with oc you cant burn your cpu that easy (i dont think you can burn it at all) but with overvoltage you can burn it in a sec
so dont play with cpus voltage if you dont know wth are you doing

Good overclock indeed. But fact remains that im the kind of guy who just leaves everything at stock and that is ready to spend more to het performance right out of the box instead of having to overclock the part.

Erm, I have 5-6 systems around here because I never sell my old hardware. I use one system as workstation and the others I use for beta testing. I even have my old Barton 2800+ with 6800XT AGP around.
