621/742 is what ive settled on too, it seems to be the best stable setting that doesnt result in any artifacts or issues

I wouldnt mind popping one more fan in my case aimed at the back of the card but i just dont have any connector to use, all my 12v psu conectors are in use and i dont feel like getting another psu out just to power a fan

Thats a decent stock O/C for the stock cooler on fans you can use a splitter the AC fans come with them installed on the harness ... fans don't draw a whole lot of current

What's sad about this on my end is I'm NOT using the stock cooler any longer. I've got a Zero-therm VGA cooler on here and the temps -- no matter how stressed the card gets -- never go above 40C. BUT, I still cannot push the OC above the stated speeds. I just don't think the cards are that overclockable to begin with. AND, this is my B/B ATI card I'm using. The PowerColor card is toast for now and I haven't been able to get any response from PowerColor about a replacement. (Long story involved.)

That is strange I have had pretty decent results so far considering the CPU I am using is of course bottlenecking the performance somewhat. Like you say perhaps the BB ATI card isn't set up to respond to O/Cing changes like the Powercolor or Sapphire cards.

Whats the exact model of your X1950 again Dyre ?

I read an article about the overclocking of the X1950 Pros ... and what they suggest is to uprise the voltage of the agp port ... (it's will be the same for the pci-e version) and they uprised it only of 0.1 v and the overclocking was more better ...

And check if you have the proper thermal paste mate

That would actually make sense as I have found the GPU is what responds poorly to O/C's. Perhaps the voltage increase(with proper cooling) would give it a bit more room for performance. I used the term "bottleneck" earlier on this thread and thats what O/Cing is like on this GPU liked its strangled .. just speculation of course

(I ran across a few voltage mods googling around and its actually as simple as changing the value of a few of the larger SMD resistors on the backside of the card)

I'm fixin to put the HD2600XT back in for now. I have someone wanting to buy that and some RAM from me in about a week or so.

Here's a snapshot of the Hardware ID for the X1950 Pro.....
