Default Overclock and Power Consumption

hello lads,
i got a question as i am bit confused about overclocking and power consumption...

a mate of mine said that power consumption does not raise linear,
so if i put up 600Mhz i need way more power than when i do not overclock it...
(as he says it needs more power means i would have to put up the voltages...)

i overclocked my e6600 from 2x2.4 to 2x3.0 and did NOT raise my voltages...
my system is stable as before and does not even get higher temperatures!!!!!

so will my system consume more power than before?? (have no hardware to check)
but as temperatures are the same (i really thought it would go up a few degrees)
i do not think its wasting more electricity than before...

and... does anyone know how far i can go without turning up the voltage? (i am at 333 now and memory is at 835(something like that))

thanks in advance

you cant measure system drain in idle you need to stress it and then u will find if your system have enough power
if system crush lower down clock
i dont see why you need a oc
your system is fucking too fast lol
and about rising cpu fsb: just rise 1 by 1 and you will found out his top fsb speed
and set up fsb/ddr to 1:1

i did stress it.. i played games and ran stress test with benchmark, temperature did not go higher than usual (before i OC'ed)

i do not need the overclock, i was just curious if i can do it to 3.0 ghz

what do you mean by ram cpu 1:1
do you mean fsb = 333 ram = 333 (aka 666mhz) (cause of dualchannel?)

got 333 cpu and 8xx at ram (cant run my ram at 1000)

@my system is fucking too fast
*grin* i am way slower than qx6800 but i do not see any need in upgrading, as i can play EVERY game maxed out @ 2560x1600 with FULL AA and AF now (colin mcrae dirt does not but i do not play it anyway )

greets
PS: still... should not conume more electricity on same settings...right?

u dont need to get higher clock to have beter results lol
just change cpu multiplier and rise fsb higher
about 1:1
it would be beter that cpu bandwidth and ddr bandwidth is same
so you can get higher stability when u overclock

normal resolution is 1280x1024
when u put it higher you just stress your card too much and that is stupid to do
because u loose most of performance

(with overclock your power drain rise. on your ultra it will rise too much but i dont think it will affect much on your pc because your psu can stand two of ultras but it would be a smart move to put stronger psu)

you cant say XxX is normal resolution... 2560x1600 is normal resolution of my screen... so why go lower when my card can stand it easily???

got an 8800 ultra @ 655MHz|1125MHz (stock overclocked! could rise it up to 700+ tested!)
i do not have two ultras and i see absolutely NO need to run two...

To answer you original question, yes your power consumption will rise. To roughly estimate how much more power it will use head over here. Put in all your components and select the option to overclock your CPU.

according to
eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Lite v2.5
(i am not sure if i should put 600 or 3000 at Overclocked CPU speed (MHz))
cause 600 is the increase and 3000 is the resulting speed...
at 600 i get 16 more Watt useage (which is not really much...)
at 3000 i get 81Watts more, which would be quite a lot...
so what do i have to set at this form?!

this tool recommends me a 369W PSU... mine has 600+

You put the total speed not the increase. Make sure to add in some capacitor aging too. Now if only there was a way to access the pro version without paying...
