Default Overclocking question

Fist i post my specs .
MOBO: ASUS A7V8X VIA KT 400
CPU: AMD Sempron 3000+ 512k Barton Core (2 GHz)
RAM: 2x512 DDR400 PC3200 CL2.5 Kingstone
PSU:400w

Im noob when it come to OC`ing , so sorry abut some stupid misstakes if i made some.
Rest is no matter.

OK so here the problem , since my CPU have locked multipler , and only way to unlock is to mess with the CPU it self , im to short for that, cant take chance of destroing it.
So the only option to overclock mem is to rise CPU external frequency, and by this rise the mem too.

I easy was able to rise it to 179/36 (12.0x) = 2.15GHz Vcore=1.625V (1.6 def) , Mem Freq.= 358
With this setting perfect stable , no hangs , nothing.

And here is the problem . From this point dont matter if i set it to 2.2GHz/368 or 2.16GHz/360 , after 5+/- minutes of playng some intense graphical and cpu game, my puter hangs.
I checked , its not temperatures , at the moment of hang , CPU temp 59c.
And i dont think its memories , cos with the STABLE 2.15GHz/1.625V/358 i can lower the latency of mem to 2 and still perfect stable , no hangs .
And i checked about PSU , its good & stable almos new , so no probs here.

So what culd be limiting me ???? I have some bad feelengs about my MOBO , cos in manual it says that only one of the ram slots is DDR400 , but on the Asus site , specs from my mobo says 2 slots for the 400 . How can i check it .

Any help wuld be nice , cos the difference is big.

If it's not the RAM maybe the CPU is not getting enough volts (seriously doubt that) or you're Mobo is hitting a limit. Wish I could help you more but I've never tried to overclock a barton sempron.

DDR400 (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
Have a look at the major flaw of the DDR400 memory:
To provide a stable running at this high speed (200 MHz), memory manufacturers have to increase the operational timings. In fact, vast majority of DDR400 modules have CAS Latency set to 3 (for reference: in DDR333, the CAS Latency = 2.5). Furthermore, the memory runs in the asynchronous mode relatively to the processor bus, which naturally gives a poor impact on the performance. Finally, KT400-based motherboards run stably only if a single DDR400 module (!) is installed.
Being aware of the situation with DDR400, motherboard manufacturers have made the following move. Some of them have completely removed any mention of DDR400 from board specifications, others (like Asustek) have given a list of modules with which a stable system operation is guaranteed. By the way, for Asus A7V8X this list is quite scarce (Samsung 256 and 512 Mb, Kingstone 256 Mb).
In my opinion, the only benefit from using DDR400 is that such a module quite probably will be able to run at 166 MHz or higher at the minimum timings (which corresponds to DDR333)"

Hmmm , so if i have 2x512 ddr333 , i culd make higher OC ?????? or is this statment false ?? AAA puting 1GB stick is out of the question cos , this mobo dont support it at all.
And other question can update of bios help me with that or i em doomed .

i think you should try a different combination of multiplier x fsb, maybe lower the multiplier from 12.. i had a barthon amt athlon 2600+ with that core and oc'd it from 2600+ @ 3000+ from 1.917 at 2.200 i think it was 193.3 x multiplier 11,5

As i mentioned above friend , This CPU has multiplier locked , and forget about pencil mod , or even the other one , cos this time AMD maked it even harder on this CPU to unlock multiplier. I readed a guide how to do it , and belive me it ivolves too muth precize things , i never wuld pull it off my self .

But i think that the problem is that my mobo support ddr400 only at on slot , and it like "unofficial" support . So sadly i think i not gonna pass the 2.15 mark , but tommorow i gonna try and take out one of the sticks , and see how far can i go then .

when you force higher clock on cpu you get a higher clock on ddr so lower down multiplier of ddr (to 1.33 or 1.66)and try to get higher clock on cpu fsb

p.s.now i have a barton 3200+ (changed 2500+ and mbo for this one) and its not locked thx god hehehehhe

How or wher can i do it ?? cos i dont see that in bios ????
I hope you are aware that AMD and mem must work in synh.( i dunno the right word for that actualy)

nop i dose not need to work in synh....
set ddr to 266 or 333 and oc cpu its just simple
when you oc cpu from 166(333) to 200(400) ddr goes like that allso from 166(333) to 200(400)

Nope no can do , in BIOS for MEMs i have only 3 options , Memory Frequencys (whit i can only set to AUTO or to manual , but when i set it to manual , it only displays the memory freq. coresponding to the cpu ext. freq. , and changes with it , the is no way to set it different.
