Well, I THOUGHT that was what I had selected (upgrade) for this release but it apparently did a new installation anyway. In fact, it made several changes that caught me by surprise.
For example: I'm installing it on my E: drive. This is a separate physical HD, not just a different partition on my System drive. On all previous installations, Vista would show that E: was where it was installed and it left my XP (C

drive isolated.
Well, this time around, VISTA shows that IT'S on C: and my 'real' C: drive has become E:. That really ticked me off at first BECAUSE I thought VISTA had REPLACED XP completely. It took a little investigating before I concluded what had actually happened. (I'm not the only one, either. Others have reported this.)
However, I'm still able to dual boot to XP Pro as well as VISTA RC2. Several files were written/updated in my XP PRO directory, too.
Now, here's my thoughts on it: I think this was the way it was supposed to be working all along. That may be why my ATI drivers weren't working properly on previous installations. I don't know that for sure. But, it would make sense that the drivers were looking for the files on C: when, in fact, the drivers were located on E:. That may explain all the corruption I was getting before. Again, I can't say this was in fact the case. But, it would make sense to me.
At any rate, with this installation, I've started clearing up a lot of space on E: (Vista's C

in order to do some software/game installations for testing. I feel that I'll have better luck now since the video drivers are working this time.
