To get to the score, go to the Start option and click on it.
Now, click on the Computer selection.
Then, click on the System Properties tab.
You'll now see a Windows Experience Index. There's an overall score there. Mine's 4.2
To get more details, click on the Windows Experience Index hypertext link. Here's what the details page should look like:

#2 | | Site Staff | Their rating system sucks big time. My system is better then yours (SLI, better CPU, more RAM and RAID0) and it’s giving me the same score. |

That's kind of why I'm asking. I wanted to see just how varied the scores are....or similar as the case may be.
Also, on RC1, my system actually scored a 4.3.

#5 | | Newbie | | PSU: 650w Antec Truepower | | Actually no. My archaic system scored a 3.6 (edit: In RC1 and 5728):
Processor: 3.7
Memory: 4.2
Graphics: 3.6
Gaming graphics: 3.6
Primary Hard disk: 5.2
There's not much I can do to improve my score without a complete upgrade... if I change out my video card I'll just end up with a 3.7. This CPU is topped out, it's a Thorton core overclocked to it's highest capabilities, which means I'm pushing it to 333mhz FSB so I can achieve 2250mhz clock speed. It's originally an Athlon XP 2200+ which means it was originally 1.8ghz. A 450mhz gain on such an old CPU is amazing, but I can't do much more. I'd have to do at least a Pentium-D 805 to get any real, beneficial performance increase. I could go single-core A64 but single-core is going the way of the 486 VERY soon, everything is gonna be multi-core within the next few years. |

It doesnt even differentiate between 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo CPu and 2.4Ghz AMD X2 Cpu. Ofcourse the C2D should score higher, but it doesnt. So dont put so much care to that number, its really bad n sux.

Show me the CPU being used in every day applications such as video encoding, games, and file compression/decompression and I'll believe the scores you tell me. This Performance in Vista score thingy? Worthless. |

Now with 4 core cpu´s coming people are starting to demand it. And with both the new Next gen consoles out, the game developers are starting to get better at programming in multi thread. Take in example "Alan Wake", you cant play the game without a dualcore, same i think with Crysis. So i think there will be an significant increase in "multithreaded" application/games programming in these upcoming years...

| That's what they want you to believe. So you go out and buy buy buy and keep buying just to have a few scripts run on the other core. I'm on dual core and non of the multithreaded games I've tried use both cores at maximum. You're just another zombified consumer. Enjoy.
