Well for me Windows XP was something, that MS started but haven't finished. Since Windows 2003 was released I use it . I have Windows 2003 Enterprise Server Trial ( for 180 days ) so it's "quite legal" even :-). Earlier I used Windows 2000 Server also trial but NT 5.0 was really easy to damage :-/. But 5.1 ? Whoo - It can work days and days without reboot. I'm a home user so for me even a 3-4 days ( for eg. when downloading something all the time ) without reboot / BSOD / slowdowns / crashes / hangups is really something.
Besides NT 5.1 I used also Mandrake ( later Mandriva ) and Slackware. But it's really hard to let go those idiot-proof Windows wizards .
But what Im't trying to say : first leaked Longhorn BETA I've obtained ( don't remember when but I think that it was really the first first which was on the p2p ) was...kinda disapointing. We here have Gadu-Gadu. It's something like messenger or ICQ . But crappier. Anywhey every time I've launched GG - explorer crashed. Same with few other programs. I know - it was a BETA ( and still is ) but it was kinda funny that "wonderful new OS" can be beat up with GG .

I don't know if I swith to Vista. I really like Win2003. But I hope that software developers won't force us to use it...

Well there are two things about Vista that interest me. 1. The hope of decent 64bit support (maybe since Intel is going with 64 bit extensions for thier Core architecture the software industry will program for it). WinXP-64 was a bad joke! 2. DirectX 10, or whatever it will be called, should produce some real benefits. Yes, this does mean buying a new video card (at the least), and may require getting more RAM (something that cost me more than $$). Current Beta software doesn't really have any of this at the moment. However, I still may check it out.

As for buying Vista when it's released... Well I just can't drum up much enthusiasm. I expect it to be "bloated, buggy, and uncooperative". I also expect lots of issues with DRM, and related software. I can only hope that companies like Starforce (or whoever it is that makes that stuff...) get on the bad side of MS and get shut down. (I basically don't want the "trojans" taking over my system... ) In any case I won't be standing in any line to buy Vista. I'll let others be the guinea pigs and "upgrade" (or might that be "downgrade") after some of the issues are ironed out.

Bottom line is that I suspect eventually they will come out with some game, that I'll have to get Vista to run. I might like to get ready for that time. But there's no point getting in a rush about it.

Vista is like a global warming effect - everyone knows that it's bad and that it will kill us all .

And it will measure up to Longhorn I think not

I don't have much faith in MS when I read articles like this about Vista
