Default x64 is useless

After few weeks of testing AMD64 + XP x64. I'm very disappointed about the software support, FarCry is the only game with x64 Binary, not even Half-Life 2 and Doom 3.

Welcome to the real world. I think it will be quite a long time before companys will start coding software from scrach in x64 binary, only then will you see the real beneficts.

How could you forget Riddick it is 64bit ready and looks damm fine. As for day to day usage and such I am fine with XP Pro 64bit personally, yes not many things are coded for it yet but Vista will change all that.

I'm really disappointed with x64! I paid almost $150 for this copy and even Microsoft can't release drivers to give me full functionality for my MS keyboard and mouse. Some of the programs that I would really like to use, like Diskeeper or TrueImage, don't have 64bit binaries, and won't work or even install. Now you might say to me "things will get better when Vista is released". Well that's a load of "male bovine excrement!!" Why should I buy a new OS every year, or every other year for that matter? I've got a copy of every Microsoft OS since Windows 3, with the exception of some of the server versions of NT, Windows 2003, and Windows XP Home Ed. (Well I do have a bootleg copy of XP Home so I can reinstall it on Dells where the owners have lost their "recovery CDs". However, I've never bought a copy, or considered installing it on one of my personal machines.) And this is the first time I've ever really considered reverting to a previous version.

Seriously! If I'm going to have almost no game titles that really take advantage of the OS then I might as well set up a Linux box. I wouldn't have to pay as much for the OS. I would probably see a greater performance improvement for my computational investment. And I wouldn't have to be frustrated by the knowledge that I'm being RIPPED OFF again!

Ok, rant mode off. I would have moved to Linux already if I didn't have an investment in all this "other software". Stuff like Diskeeper, TrueImage, Picozip, NeroBurning ROM, Winamp.... All I can say for sure is that I won't buy Vista when it's first released. And I encourage all of you not to do so as well. Somehow we have to find a way to communicate to these companies that the "status quo" isn't going to cut it anymore. The only thing companies like Microsoft will ever respond to is when we can have some impact on their "bottom line", cut their Profit and they'll pay attention.

Now excuse me for a day while I format my HDD and revert to a 32-bit OS. (/kicks self for being such a stooge....)

Also UT 2004 has a x64 patch. So apparently things are slowly going in the right way.
