Default help with Xp 32bit and ram.

I have a very odd problem here On xp 32 bit the os only see 1.49GB of ram I have 6 GBs and I know that 32bit os can not use much over 3GB but should't it use more? I reformatted the drive it has all the hotfixs and sp3 I really dont know what to do. Ps on my main hard drive I have vista ultimate x64 and it see all my ram. I kind of think mybe it something with my M/B its a EVGA x58. thanks in advance.

Why not just use vista 64 if you have it?

Anyways, what configuration do you have your ram set up in? 3 x 2gb sticks? if thats the case then try pulling the 3rd stick out

Yes my ram is in a 3 2 GB configuration.
The reason I use xp to is b/c its a back up. I have 2 hard drives my raptor has vista x64 on it my other hard drive a 500 GB i use for backing my stuff up on pic downloads ect. I run xp sometimes b/c some old games do not want to run on vista x64 thats why I have xp on that drive.

yes. it not so much the games but the installer sometimes they say the 64bit os are not compatible and just close. I know when lost planet came out it would not even run on my old xpx64 it would just say no compatible os in stalled. Thats why I still have Xp 32bit and also If for some resion my vista would not boot or just was not running right I could switch over and use xp intill i fixed it.
Ps lost planet now works on 64bit they updated it.

I also have this type of compatibility problem with Windows XP and DDR3. For example, my MacBook Pro uses DDR3 and when I was using XP with 4Gb of RAM (had to downgrade to the original 2Gb because the RAM ended up being defective), the system would only detect 2,75Gb. Maybe the fact that you are using a new system with a triple channel architechture makes XP go apeshit, who knows,

well this sucks. I been looking around the web and can not find anything about DDR 3 not beaning compatible with XP 32 bit. From what I have read it should work fine and other people on the web are using DDR 3 and it works fine. Could it be maybe my M/B is not completely compatible with xp? I don't know. Might try asking evga and see if they herd anything about it.

Check EVGA for BIOS updates as well as updated Chipset drivers for your motherboard. That often fixes problems like this.

BTW, I also have XP Pro 32-bit that I can boot into but primarily because of the lack of hardware drivers under either Vista or Windows 7 for my legal-size flatbed scanner. That's about the only reason I still have XP Pro at all these days. And, I do once in a great while, test the difference between the OSes for performance.

Good luck!
