Did you get any joy with this after Blindartist.....I noticed large increases in boot time when doing a fresh install recently.....both anti virus and fire wall software are very tied into the os and can cause boot up slow down....I was using AVG free anti virus and Zone alarm free fire wall.....turned out it was zone alarm...try unistalling your security software rather than disabling it if you are still having problems.

Just out of curiosity, why would you use Zone Alarm in addition to Windows' Firewall? Don't get me wrong, I used to use Zone Alarm myself...back in the dark ages of Windows 98. But, since Windows now comes with its own Firewall, I don't see a reason to have two running together. After all, I do also have a router. So, I have a hardware firewall in addition to a software firewall. But, two software firewalls don't make much sense to me.

as you are talking about firewalls...
i noticed that windows 7 still asks you if a program is allowed to access the network althought the firewall is DISABLED (shouldnt the firewall be disabled if you disable it? )

I normally turn off the windows firewall as it is meant to be crap....but yeah I take your point about also having a hardware firewall on your router....I suppose I just feel a little safer having one directly on my pc as well.
