Default questions about 64bit OS and compatability

Hey Guys,

So, Ive yet to really play with a 64bit os os my system but now that I might finally be building a new one I think im going to go straight to windows 7 64, but i have some questions regarding compatability, and if any of these sound stupid youll have to forgive me :P

So does all software work on a 64bit os or does it have to be specifically made for 64bit? I know drivers do but does software also?

This of course include games, my fiancee really likes to play thoes little casual games like the stuff from big fish games so thoes really need to be able to work.

Will windows vista 64bit drivers work on windows 7 64bit? My printer has 64 bit drivers for vista available but im not sure if there wil lbe windows 7 drivers released and buyinga new printer is really not in the budget.

any other tips or pointers?

Thanks!

I'm using x64 bit os-es only since over one year and during this time i didn't have big problems with drivers and software. The only exception was turbo pascal, i had to run it via dosbox.

So no issues with run of the mill games and applications or anything?

I've been using Vista 64 bits for quite awhile now, i still play starcraft, and average cheap run of the mil games this is my first version that's 64 bit. I haven't had many issues except for my mouse from razer that didnt have vista drivers yet but i dont classify tit as a 64 bit issue

Everything works. Maybe some old games like Duke 3D won't work but you always have DosBOX. Vista has WoW64(Windows on Windows64) it is a emulator or something like that it emulates 32bit software to 64bit. Seven probably has the same thing so you will be good. I had only issues with software firewalls because they were still 32bit at the time when Vista came out so I used the Microsoft one. Now I use a firewall in my router so I don't know how it looks now.

Do you know if vista 64 drivers work on windows 7 64? I just really dont want to have to get a new printer if brother doesnt release windows 7 drivers for this one

Brother in some cases have no drivers for their printers for vista, if there is no driver for vista x32 you can be sure there is no driver for x64 one.
