Win7 has still some issues, but from build to build it's more polished. You can try the RC build which is now leaking, or wait till May 5th till the official release of RC build. Then you can have a full view of the near-final OS. |

For a Beta build, it's been quite dependable and out-performs my Vista Home Premium 32-bit significantly. As XP is reaching its 'end of life' I'd recommend looking to the future and get a good handle on W7.

I smell a *nix fanboy. He asked for an OS, not a word about it acting like a server. |

He asked for an OS, not a word about it acting like a server. | You're wrong, when people come asking about stability they generally want a server, and i'm not an OS fanboy I use them because I need them. Your win7 has been running for 60 days? Thats really usefull, means nothing. By the way i'm using windows 7 here, along with Windows Server 2008 and Vista. (Vista is dead though, like 1 months without being used, i'm going to remove it soon) - Windows 7 also has some problem with some programs I use thats why i kept Windows Server 2008. And yes I use some *nix system because I need some scientific applications like Octave. |

I don't want to argue with you, but show me an example of end-user (not a PRO) that comes here, and asks for an OS advice and makes a topic 'vista,xp or 7' and wants to be advised a server OS ? Your win7 has been running for 60 days? Thats really usefull, means nothing
Uptime means stability - ask around.
BTW - server 2008 uses the same kernel which you mentioned is 'dead to you' (vista).
Oh, and another thing - XP compatibility mode via built-in virtualization in Seven, so you can kill two birds with one stone.
Ok, there is no point on continuing this conversation since I can see you hardly are prone to any arguments. |
