Seriously , if some many people say its crap , just on this site , it cant be good for me .
I swithed for xp for games , but its look like it not going to be that story with Vista , well not in the same time period that it was with xp . Or maybe it will never happen .

| [joke] You have a 64bit CPU therefore you should run a 64bit OS, OMG waste! (despite having 2GB of RAM). [/joke]

#14 | | Golden Member | | RAM: 4096 Corsair 800 XMS2 | | Initially I was quite concerned about Vista64 being the right choice of OS because I had never used a 64 bit OS before and I didnt know if it was going to be supported to the same extent as the 32 bit version.
I can safely say now that I'm really glad I did choose it as it is now a solid operating system which is supported almost as much as 32bit version, its great for gaming and uses + 2GB ram well.
Especially now that most of the minor annoyances have been ironed out with SP1 I can highly recommend it.
Any annoyances I had before (and any I still have) were always very minor anyway- there are still a few small issues mind you but it looks good (much better than XP) and it also works good.
However, If you have XP its not really necessary to switch but for 3 reasons:
1. visually it looks much better than XP for day to day work
2. You want a 64 bit OS (I would choose Vista64 over XP64 any day)
3. You want DX10+ games (but if you're a serious gamer you'd get Vista64 version anyway)

I think you're wrong here, a lot of gamers use Vista now (many with 64bit version because it has good support). Serious gamers want the latest eye-candy = DX10+ = Vista, PLUS they also want the best framerates possible when gaming = 64bit version.
I consider myself a serious gamer and I want both of the above so I opted for Vista 64 and I haven't been disappointed with the OS so far.

Serious gamers don't give a damn about DX10 (yet) nor physx nor are they awed and wooed by little shiny buttons. Serious gamers are not delusional when it comes to performance and they play more than just recent titles.

#19 | | Advanced Newbie | The FPS vs Features/eye candy, depends on whether it is multiplayer or single player. Vista vs XP, depends on the specific application/game as to which is actually faster. Vista does have some performance tweaks in it over XP, and all its extra "weight" can be disabled/customised.
Some of the tips/optimisations in the OP article are actually useful and worth doing. |

#20 | | Golden Member | | RAM: 4096 Corsair 800 XMS2 | | Fine if you say so, it doesn't affect me. I don't give a damn if people ("serious gamers") actually want to play old games with old GPUs and play with second-rate visuals. However personally I think they are daft if they actually choose to experience games this way (or either too poor to afford the newer games/hardware).
Oh well then, I'll just carry on enjoying my better DX10 visuals with my awesome framerates and all the latest games titles too on my nice looking 64 bit OS?
